Your example is incorrect.

You buy a house for 500k. The house normally would not get assessed for 500k. Plus today you already have homestead exemptions maybe portability too. So maybe the house is taxed at 400,000 or 350,000.

Real example, house purchased recently for $325,000 .. Taxable value is only $88,000. Lucky for us who have homestead and portability. But if you don't have it, you will pay tax on close to the purchase price. Florida punishes those who are not homesteaded.

Can you link articles? I’d like to read them.

Research the words: DeSantis passes new laws on property taxes. This will give you an outline of the new laws. If you want in depth, read Senate Bill 4F and House Bill 1329.

Outstanding. Thanks. So Wildwood passed the budget within the constraints of this new bill?

Yes. The majority agreed to the new budget. The millage rate is the same as last year.

I've seen this in several suburban areas around Atlanta, when you start seeing people walking all along the streets you'll know it's time to move because crime comes along with the stroll.

The city rejected the request. Taxpayers foot the bill for sidewalks along Rt. 44 between Buena Vista and Morse that NO ONE uses. Wildwood can put a ramp garage in a desserted downtown but a needed 400 yd. sidewalk is denied. I can't wait to vote for Amendment 3. I wish I could vote twice. My neighbors feel the same way.
The same person who was advocating for the sidewalk first tried to get the CDD to pay for it. There is already a sidewalk in that area that goes to the mail station. This same person is running for CDD 13. With mentality like this no wonder there is so much waste and fraud in Government. There is no financial discipline. Everyone wants their little pet projects that only benefit them and not the entire community.

Correct. But Wildwood is still a mismanaged, irresponsible city. I would never live there.

What facts do you base that conclusion on?

I'm sorry but I don't see how that make sense. Property taxes increase with no vote. If they have to put proposals together to raise taxes that require votes, seems like a positive to me. Sell me on why you need more money.

What you are referring to is a walking path that goes around a pond adjacent to the roadway. To get to the walking path a great number of residents would have to actually first walk in the direction opposite to the mailboxes. Then to get to the mailboxes they would have to walk through the Natives parking lot. Meanwhile someone put in and paid for a ramp going from the rec center parking lot to the roundabout. I've never seen anyone use it and why would you want people to be walking in a roundabout? When I lived in Lake Deaton the major street Warnok had both golf cart lanes and a sidewalk. In St. John's Okahumpka Run has neither. They squeezed every square foot they could to build houses and didn't care that the narrow streets and lack of sidewalk puts people unnecessarily in harms way.

Just look around at all the unrestrained growth and traffic. Oh yeah and that critically needed garage that nobody uses except the business next door and maybe city employees.
