For the most part, both the AAC and PWAC are pretty conservative with our money, sometimes too tight with a buck. But, that's not all bad.
The Project Wide Advisory Committee PWAC
is planning to spend $500,639.69 to buy 910 stacking chairs for the Laurel Manor Recreation Center.
That's $550.15 per chair.

I disagree with characterizing that as being conservative with our money. That's ridiculous. Wonder who's getting a fatter wallet from spending that amount on chairs.
Their financial decision making is a disaster.

Price for those chairs should be $300 or less based on my visual research in Google. I think PWAC and CDD'S are rolling in the dough and do not care about the dollars and cents being spent here.

As these chairs are for a rec center, the PWAC is not spending any money at all. Along with their Project Wide duties, the PWAC performs an advisory role for the SLAD which is the Amenities Division within the SLCDD. The PWAC may agree with the expense but it is the SLCDD/SLAD that will be spending the money.

From the invoice/proposal it wasn’t clear to me whether this cost was for purchasing the chairs, upholstering the chairs, or both. I have no idea what commercial grade custom upholstering should cost.

Anyone with an opinion on this should plan to attend the PWAC meeting next week. That is the platform to have your voice heard.

They should, but most, if not all, will not. It's way easier to just complain on social media sites, like this one.

Complaining about complaining, the irony of it.

It's actually called sincerity. The complete opposite of irony. But nice try.

I do remember the debate over the chairs. It was important to make sure the chairs would hold up for a certain number of years, hence the quality of the chairs had to be very high. If you listen to the full discussion, which is available on line, you get the full context of how they came to that decision.

It is their JOB to be financially responsible. That's a core requirement.
It shouldn't be up to residents to have to question every single thing they want to spend money on. That is their purpose - to act responsibly and be accountable to the residents who fund them. To know when they are looking at a ridiculously expensive overpriced item, and not to move forward on buying it at that cost.

Perhaps they are doing their JOB and these chairs with the custom upholstery are well within industry standard pricing. Perhaps it is the residents who want to complain without attending the meetings, learning the details, and asking questions who are not doing their JOB.
