I have an accepted offer on a home in TV and starting to sort through what we bring down. I love my Corinthian Bell wind chimes and would like to bring them down. I also realize that others may not enjoy my affection for wind chimes. I am curious if there are any rules or etiquette other than asking my neighbors?
If it makes a difference, the home is on a lot with open separation (no fence) between homes, with a pond in back. Walking trail on the left and a home on the right. Thanks in advance for all the thoughtful responses I am about to receive. This forum is amazing. |

IMO they can be beautiful or irritating. In the ear of the beholder.
For me I'm in the latter camp. We do get winds here, and that could be grrrrr. And at night that could be extremely irritating to neighbors. That sound can travel extensively. Wrap the bells in foam rubber. |

I, for one, do not have wind chimes but I do enjoy them. Others will probably suggest you review. your CDD rules and regulations to make certain you are not in violation.
Be mindful to take them down when you leave (if you snowbird/snowflake) because of hurricane season.

There are no rules about wind chimes. Believe me, I have checked everything. But I hate them and I think they should be banned everywhere. It is inconsiderate to force a neighbor to listen to a wind chime 24/7. It is noise pollution, and it would cause me to sell my house and to move if a neighbor refused to remove them.

My new neighbor across the street has 5 different types of cheap wind chimes hanging. Some are wooden, some metal, etc. After 5 minutes on a windy day I can no longer sit on my lanai or keep my windows opened for fresh air. I have politely asked to move some to their backyard which backs up to the street. They have ignored my request. It is noise pollution and sounds like broken glass and not melodic at all. I’ve lived here 20 years and not going to move for inconsiderate people.

Absolutely hate wind chimes. They go on and on and on, every day … noise pollution. And you can hear it several houses away depending on the direction of the wind. One neighbor 5 houses away had them at the front and after they noticed that people weren’t talking to them, they took the stuff off.
Can I suggest a water fountain instead? Last edited by Velvet; 06-08-2025 at 09:31 AM. |
