We had thought about tile through out with the exception of the bedrooms. Our current home has slate in all traffic areas, dining room, kitchen and baths. We love the look of the slate. Super low maintenance. But man is it hard on the body!!!
Now thinking about wood.....
For our LSL visit we stayed in a cute little key west looking home adjacent to LSL sales center. The home had gorgeous hand scraped hickory floors. I'm sure they are incredibly pricey.
I mentioned them to my daughter who said her designer BFF chose "linoleum" in a wood design for her own new home. Durable, beautiful and inexpensive and easy on the feet and legs. .
Anyone know about these products? I think of the old checker board pattern linoleum squares. I guess it's come a long way since then

My big concern with vinyl would be it ripping when the fridge gets moved - been there done that. Love the warmth of wood or laminate, but the ease of care of tile. Tough decision - go with what makes you fell good - not what the designer did!

My daughter has this in her home and it is beautiful. They live in the country on a horse farm so they not only love the look but the easy care. It comes in all grades and the best is equivalent to hardwood in price. Check it out and I think you will be surprised. It is not the old linoleum but thick vinyl planks. People never notice that it is not hardwood.

That sounds like what my daughtr's friend has. It too went down in planks. She said it doesn't dent or scratch or tear which sounds too good to be true.
I've just not looked at flooring in ages...I guess I've got some research to do!
So that is considered linoleum? Or vinyl? She said it went down with suction cups on the bottom? Any other info??

will let you have tiles that LOOK like WOOD!...another choice!

I love the look of this flooring. Even my bro-in-law who does home remodeling for a living and has never liked anything but hard wood flooring recommends the stuff. It installs in planks, looks like wood but has a cushion to it. We are currently trying to decide what color to go with. In our search we have learned it comes in two different installations. One is interlocking which " floats" the other is glued down Can't figure out which is the better way to go. Pricing seems to be a tad higher than laminate.

We choose linoleum because of the ease of care, warmth(it is not a ceramic tile cemented onto a potentially cold cement slab), and cushioning. It is very easy on your feet, very easy to clean(no grout lines to get dirty), and looks great. We are very happy with our choice and it wasn't a monetary decision although I think the linoleum is cheaper--not really sure.

I have stayed in places with that scraped wood floor you were talking about and really liked it a lot. I guess the only bad thing about it is it may show dust and be hard to keep clean. We had Brazilian Cherry in our last house and it was constant maintenance.

I bought sheet flooring that looks like wood, everyone thinks it is wood, it has a cushion and is easy on the body plus easy care. If you drag a really heavy object it might tear it in which case you simply cut out the bad part and put in another piece. The glue never drys so is easy to repair. Bought from floor masters

We just got back from Lowes, scoped out the appliances and flooring. We were really impressed with the "Allen and Roth" laminate flooring. Amazing stuff. Beautiful and nice texture. Checking online it looks like it is exclusive at Lowes. They have "slate", "tile", and a large selection of "wood" it is $1.99 sq ft excluding the underpayment. It comes in interlocking planks and looks super easy to install. We may just build with vinyl and carpet and consider installing this later. Our favorite was an" antique hand scrubbed hickory".
