Default Considering using Pods

Wondering if anyone has used a Pods container for moving. We would like to hear pros and cons. How long will TV allow the container to sit in the driveway? Will we have at least 24 hrs. to unload it??

We used a PODS unit for the first half of our move over the Christmas holiday. You can have the POD in your driveway up to 72 hours to unload. It has to be completely within your driveway. Using it was great and we moved everything ourselves with some movers' "skateboards".

We are planning to use another POD for the second phase of our move once his job is finally finished or the house is sold - whichever comes first. The first move consisted of most of our furniture, the next one will be the stuff like the washer, dryer freezer, clothes, his tools and other misc. stuff.

I am currently here sans washer/dryer but at least Rock 'n Wash is nearby. I'm not fond of laundramats, but at least I am here!

PM me if you want more info...

Just curious Kim, how much did you move in the Pod. We are considering the same thing when we move but not sure how much we can fit in one. Suggestions?

I don't remember how many boxes we moved. If you look at the pics in my profile you can see most of the furniture that is in my 2 brm CYV. My son and his friend helped stack and tie stuff up so we had many layers of stuff in the POD. We still could have fit more into it, but we were racing against the clock to get it packed before any snow fell.

You want to make sure you have the stuff balanced and "tied off" so it can't move around during the move. We screwed in additional "eye"bolts to the side walls and floor, and we used ratcheting tie-down straps to wrap around and secure stuff. One word of caution would be don't get the cheap straps, they WILL loosen up.

Looks like we will need two. Any problems with delivery?

They schedule a delivery window and call about 30 minute or so before they arrive. Our POD was delivered on Christmas eve and we didn't fly down 'til Christmas day. Redwitch met them for us and they were already here before she got to my villa. The only issue with 2 PODS is you have to make sure they can either fit them both in your driveway, or have them delivered separately. I think there was a previous post about someone having an issue with 2 PODS being delivered.

Are you moving into a house with a 2 car garage or a villa?

Garage, so there should be enough driveway space. Thanks

Default Pods

We moved via PODS from eastern NC in April/May. It was a little dicey getting the 16' POD delivered to our house as the franchise was 65 miles from us and their specially equipped delivery truck was a Japanese brand and needed a part and it was soon after the Japanese tsunami and the part was no! t available. After a couple of days they borrowed a truck from another location and brought our POD. Took us about 3 days to fill it up and it was on it's way to TV while we had to kill a couple of weeks before our move in date here. We only brought a few pieces of furniture and a LOT of plastic "tubs" with all of our "stuff". I loved that it had clothing rods built-in and we just hung our closet stuff on the 2 rods. They delivered our POD in TV on time on a Friday and came back and picked it up on Monday giving us ample time to empty it. Our move was approximately 900 miles and wound up costing around $2700 which included $250 extra for bringing the POD 65 miles from their nearest location. Other than the couple of days delay in getting the POD to us in the beginning, everything went smooth and if we were to move again would use them again. The big PLUS is the time you have to pack and unpack! They give you about 30 days from delivery to pick up and that was a real luxury for us!!

Default PODS Versus ABF

We moved into TV using ABF Cubes found that they were less expensive and the Cubes pack easily. Price quoted was firm and all inclusive. They worked with us when we had to change dates a little. The PODS quote didn't have all the cost displayed (like delivery from their warehouse to our home).

Bottom line - shop around and make sure you get a door-to-door quote.

Default Pod in my driveway right now

If you'd like to see the inside, I've just had a POD delivered for a move. Very clean.
By the way, I've got a one year old king size bed for sale, cheap. Frame $200. Frame w/mattress & box spring $700. Underbed sliding storage drawers. Originally $1500+
Stained glass window hanging approx 28" x 37" $125
Plants, paintings, etc.
Until Tuesday.
Also, house is for sale by owner until 7/4; goes to Village realtor 7/4.
