medicare and NJ retired employee health insurance
Can anyone who is a retired state of NJ employee help me. My husband is turning 65 and must enroll in medicare. Not sure what to do since we want to keep perscription drug coverage which is provided by State.
Other problem is we split time between Florida and New Jersey and want to make sure we can see our doctors in both states or anyother state while we travel about the country. Is regular medicare our only choice. Please let me know what you have done. Thanks |

Medicare and NJ Insurance
Well, I live solely in NJ and am a retiree of the State of NJ. When I was working, I had the free insurance. I kept that in retirement and still have my prescriptions benefits for my husband and myself. We have regular medicare and each carry the insurance that we had at work as our secondary insurance. The only exception to this is that my husband uses my prescription plan as he's also covered under my plan.
Upon either of our deaths, the other won't be covered by the living spouses' secondary insurance. I know that the New Jersey insurances from the State now cover Florida. (At least that's what I remember reading.) I don't see why you couldn't go to doctor's in either NJ or Florida. When we stayed in Florida for two months, my husband had to seek medical treatment down there and there wasn't any problem. Hope this helps. Medicare and our secondary insurances have been very good about covering all of our expenses.

I retired from the State of New Jersey and reside in both Florida and New Jersey. Medicare is no problem as u r covered anywhere. I have New Jersey Direct 10 (horizon) and my wife has Cigna as an individual who retired from the State. No problem with either of our secondary insurances in NJ or Florida. Don't worry about it, but to satisfy yourself, call the Division of Pensions in Trenton and verify that ur insurances r covered in both states.
