I have lived here for 3 years and like the rest of us, I use the municipal water directly from the tap. I see no reason to further filter it as the water coming from the tap is regulated by the State. I am sure others will say the water tastes bad or smells bad or whatever, but it has not been an issue with me. Maybe I am just not a demanding individual, but I would rather spend the couple of thousand dollars on some other items.

It is your call!

Is a water filtration system a good investment? No, it is NOT a good investment. An investment would be something increases the value of your home like a glassed in lanai.

Some people think a water filtration system makes their water taste better. That is a personal choice. I put the tap water in a Brita pitcher and keep that in the fridge. I also have a replaceable filter in the fridge. Lots cheaper than a water filtration system. The tap water, to me, tastes just fine on it's own. No color, no odor, and tastes fine. It is hard water, for sure. Some people use a water softner for their personal choice.

When you move in, you WILL get phone calls right away and probably some person at your door saying they are the Welcome of the Villages. They are not. They are trying to scare you into buying the water filtration systems. They will take a test tube of your tap water, put some black dye in it, the water will turn dark and they will say the water is unsafe without their system. This is a scam. Throw them out immediately!!

We have just moved into our home less than a week ago and the door bell has not stopped ringing with people trying to sell some type of service or other it has just been insane the mover was still unloading our stuff and people were trying to get us to buy into a contract for "whatever". I am an Electrical contractor and have worked with all the trades in every aspect from residential to heavy industrial. I will pass on the water filtration Thanks for the input.

Just a question about the TV water. Here in Ohio, our water is so bad it calcifies around all the faucets, clogs all the plumbing, leaves chalky white stuff on the dish drainer. Basically it leaves white stuff everywhere. They tell us it's safe to drink but I'd like to live long enough to move the The Villages so I don't drink it.

Anyway, is the water down there anything like ours?

Thanks for a response.

Hi there!
I'm also from the Youngstown area (Girard), but I think it's disgusting that I get a dirt ring in the toilets down here. That kinda tells me that I'm probably getting the same in and on my body. I had a plumber install a "cheap" whole house filtration system, a dual, that has a paper filter and a charcoal filter. The whole thing installed was under $400. Replacement filters are cheap and last about 3-6 months. Got rid of the dirt ring! I also put a Pur filter on the kitchen sink for the drinking water. Peace of mind!

We move in 19 days! and we will be doing a softener for the whole house and the same kind of Pur filter on the kitchen faucet. After softening it may be good enough tasting, but the flilers are cheap and are good at removing any residual chemical flavors.

When we had our softener installed, they put a filter in-line before the softener. You should not need the Pur filter after the softener.

We heard about the water filter sales scam when friends moved in. We talked to the Villages staff and were told that the water is absolutely fine. NO FILTRATION SYSTEM needed. We figured as much since if one was needed, they would build it inot the price and make the money themselves. Water tastes fine to me and does not seem all that hard. We are south of 466A so that [I]might[I] make a difference.

Default Water hardness

TV water is about 10 or 11 which is hard, but not terribly so.

The water here IS SAFE out of the tap. It's a personal choice if you want more filtration.

We opted for a plumber installed Sears Hybrid softener and filter combo. Total was around $ 1000 and it works very well so far.

Rule of thumb is the harder they push the more you are overpaying IMHO.

Not just your opinion! I 100% agree with that thought.

My personal advice is if you want a water filtration system buy one from Lowe's Or Home Depot. There are several companies out in TV that are ONLY after a commission. They will try to sell you a 5000 system that only cost them a few hundred dollars and then they will fail to tell you that they are going to harass you to only buy their products to put in your system and want to charge outrageous amounts for them. Also they will scam you into believing that if you do not maintain a yearly maintenance that you will lose your warranty which is false. They are nothing more than greedy hustlers

Here's another idea I think is the perfect solution. Consider putting in a reverse osmosis system at the kitchen sink. It's a system of between three and five filters and a 3 gallon water storage tank which all fit nicely under the sink and still leave room for a trash can, dishpan, etc. These systems have a separate faucet which is installed next to the main sink faucet. The Lowes and Home Depot systems from Whirlpool etc. cost $150. The faucet is extra, about another $40. I did lots of research and found an I-Spring system with ultimate filtration (five filters), and the faucet included for about the same price, through Amazon. I hired a plumber who installed the unit for $200. I'm a do-it-yourselfer but hate plumbing. Then I watched a youtube video of installing the I-Spring and knew I could have done the job rather easily. But I couldn't be happier. Clear, pure water always available for hot & cold drinks and cooking for less than $400.

Anything more than a sediment filter and carbin filter in the water line is a waste. You should be able to find a qualified plumber to install that for less than 500 dollars.
