A water softener doesn't filter anything, it only softens. Hard water can't hurt U the other stuff does and that's a fact. I can sell U a softener too but in my opinion it is not needed, I've talked many out of them....to date have not installed one. Quote:
I don't use one and I'm in the biz, but one of my sons has one in his house and swears by it, my two other sons don't have it. But all of them use the whole house unit. So it's personal choice. We now drink the water here that goes thru our filter. I trust you now have more info to consider Call me if U want to discuss further. .

The set will last about 9-12 months depending on usage.
The gauges tell you when they are starting to get to that point. A set of 3 is about $60 .

I agree with jimbo as to the Nova water filtration system. I had it installed 2 weeks ago and waited to report on it till it was in use for awhile. The chlorine taste and water spots are gone. I use about 1/2 of the dish washer and laundry detergents and I like the "feel" of the water in the shower. I couldn't be happier and highly recommend the NOVA whole house water filtration system!

I'm pleased your happy with the system, the reason the the chlorine taste and water spots are gone is I use a commercial not residential build.
The carbon in most systems are just that carbon poured into a container. I use coconut carbon it is compressed in a BLOCK so it's not loose packed no water can find its way around the media like regular carbon, this is called bypass or channeling. ngbweb for more info please PM or email for more info.
