Default New to Sanibel

Hello All,
I would like to take a moment to introduce ourselves. We are Rich and Linda from upstate New York. We built and Iris in Sanibel and closed in July.

We feel fortunate to have been put on the distribution list for the Fern/Gilly group, sounds like a great group of people and look forward to having fun. I have met via email some really nice people from this list already.
My husband's "Happy Place" is Codys during Happy Hour for their Long Island Iced Teas.

I know many of you are in the design or building phase right now. If you have any questions we might be able to answer, just send a message. Would be happy to help.

Again, our door is open, if you are in the area, please stop by to say hello. We will have a cold one waiting for you. Also, if there are any organized activities or get togethers, please let us know. Take care.

New to Sanibel: Welcome to a great friendly Village where really everybody is new. We moved in January and left the middle of May for the summer to Illinpis where we still have a condo. Sounds like you have been going through a "trying" time but things will be better when you get to TV. We got back to TV and Sanibel two weeks ago and you will not believe all the new houses. As a matter of fact, Sanibel is almost completely built out and new villages to the south and west are going up fast. Bonifay has a great outdoor bar which has "specials" to enjoy and a fun place to enjoy happy hour. Maybe we will see you all there. Oh, be careful because you all invite and they all will come!

Hi Rich & Linda: My husband and I hope to get to TV in 2013; and, we are trying to decide, between the Iris and the Cedar. Did you make any alterations to the Iris? The only thing we did not prefer was the location of the sinks, in the Master bathroom. We were wondering if the builder would place the sinks on the same wall, take out the little vanity counter, and put in a Linen cabinet on the wall that adjoins the shower.....again, congrats!!! We hope to be Villagers in 2013.

Yes they will change those things in the bathroom no issue just sketch out what you like, I redid the entire master bath, waiting for a price but those changes are usually very reasonable.

We R building a Whispering Pine the same floorplan as the Cedar.

We are building and will close in late Nov. Very excited, is TV all it's up to be? Did you sell your home in Upstate NY, we too are from Upstate, Niskayuna, still trying to sell. Can't wait to shovel sunshine and not snow, the paper said it's going to be a snowy and cold winter.

Thanks, Jimbo....very helpful information. I love the Cedar/WP design....the changes we would want to make to the Cedar: enclose the Dining Area and make it an Office, with 6' sliding french pocket doors (to let in light, since this Office will be window-less), install a coat closet on the wall that backs up to the garage mechanical room, put the master bathroom sinks on the same wall install a linen cabinet, in the space where the smaller sink was located, and relocate the laundry sink to the garage. Hopefully, all of these types of changes are possible, as well, in a new build.

That area was all changed a few weeks ago.

Also consider a slider in the EIK area it lets in a ton of light,

The HVAC is now on the outside wall, the laundry room is inside, here's a few pics. But U need to see it.

So....Jimbo.....when you wrote "that area was all changed a few weeks ago.." does that mean that the floor plan of the Cedar that is on TV website is not the current lay-out or, when are you referring to changes you made? I like the idea of adding a slider in the EIK area. Did you make any other changes? I love the ability to customize a plan. We have built 4 homes in the past, so we like the building process.

Yes the one on the website is the old version.

I intend to change it a bit more with a stacked W/D making the laundry room 30" smaller having the same effect as bumping out the garage over 2', for what I believe is no cost.

I'm making many other changes.......working on the plans now.

We extended the width of the lanai 4' and the garage length 2'. We did kitchen layout B which placed the refrig on the back wall. There's is one linen cabinet in the master bath but not huge. I am sure you could change bathroom around and place closet in there. I will tell you, I love my vanity. Other than that some other things like rounded corners, larger baseboards, insulated garage door, ceramic tile, etc. You are welcome to PM me if you need further information. I like the cedar very much too.

Yankee, no we have not put our home in Rochester up for sale. Have two young adults that just finished their Masters degrees and are trying to get established so they are there. Agree with you about shoveling, last winter was too good to be true, might be different this year for those up north. take care, good luck with your cosing in November. I am sure you
will love it. We do.

Thanks, Jimbo. I appreciate all the information, pictures, etc. It is comforting to know that the builder seems to be reasonable/flexible regarding changes. Makes the process, and end result, all that much more exciting. Enjoy your experience and pave the way for the rest of us that hope to make TV our home, soon.
