I have a CYV on a corner lot with a pool. I keep my gate locked all the time. The pool boy has a key and the others that need to get in know that they have to call first. Works well for me.

Also nice to know there are other "clothing optional" people in TV.
Not to worry... You aren't the only "clothing optional person out there" I see lots of them when I go on google earth!

Default Just sayin'

Today was the first time I saw a shiny new padlock on the outside of the gate of a CYV.
My first thoughts were," Oh, they're away."
Never thought they might have a pool, or doggie who could get out. My first thought was that the place was probably empty. Then I wondered what they were so anxious to protect back there. (Guess that comes from growing up urban.)

So, just sayin'.... maybe lock the gate from the INSIDE, so the lock doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. And know that if a bad guy really wants in, and sees there is a lock, he's just gonna cut it, climb over or go in another way.

When I first moved into my CYV in 2004, I was the only one living on my street surrounded by construction and
landscaping people during the day. I put a lock on my gate on the inside. The lawn people and Massey would call me
before arriving so I could remove the lock.
It worked out well.

down in Osceola county, if a pool/lawn guy sees anyone sunbathing or bathing topless, they have been know to make a complaint to the local sheriff!!

Maybe one of the new villages south of 466A should be 'clothing optional'.

Now that just doesn't seem the TV way.

I believe that none of us should be complacent when it comes to security. In the years that we have lived here there have been times when certain areas have had burglaries. Some years back the crooks were lifting out sliding doors, right out of the tracks, to gain access. ( I believe that this was in homes and not villas) There is probably a thread on here somewhere about how to install screws in the upper track so that the door can not be lifted out. We did that to both sets of sliding doors in our villa. I do not believe that courtyard villas are any more targeted by burglars than any other style of home and I do believe that break-ins are quite rare in The Villages in general. Do talk to the neighbor who shares your side courtyard about installing a lock on your gate. Chances are he will agree that it is a good idea. Just make sure that he can access his area for painting, power washing, insect treatment, etc. as needed. Our neighbor, who is only here for 6 months of the year, calls us a day ahead to let us know he will need the gate unlocked. I suppose you could give the neighbor a key but then you wouldn't want him or her walking in on you, either! When darkness falls on my villa I close all blinds. Crooks looking for quick drug money will often case out a home, peering into windows to see if they can spot a purse or a wallet on a kitchen counter. If they can't see what they want they will usually move on to easier pickings. I wish that we could feel 100% secure living here. The times that we live in make that impossible. I will, however, make it as difficult and as miserable as I can for a criminal to gain access to my home!

%Thanks for your info...I'm not naive enough to think there is anywhere anymore even TV where 100% security is possible. Just looking to be able to sleep at night. like I said I love the privacy of the CYV's especially in mornings when I might want to drink my coffee on the lanai in my jammies. But was thinking that there might be a little more security in homes that are up close and personal in the back yard. An intruder might think twice knowing that there are plenty of eyes that could be watching. Thin trying to make a decision on the best housing can be real stressful! There are just too many wonderful options in TV!y never was very interested in that and is less so at 61......I would want to scare anyone!
As for clothing optional my bod
