My husband is in his late 50's and I am in my late 40's. Our home in Colorado is now empty of children and we are ready to start the next stage in our lives!
We were so excited to finally visit The Villages in July. We had a great time touring homes, golfing, and dining. When shopping at the grocery stores and driving around established villages, we noticed that the average age was about 70. Can I have some honest feedback, from full-time residents, if my age would hinder me "socially" in The Villages? ![]() |

Are you young at heart? We have friends that are twenty years older, and we couldn't ask for friends that are more dear, but to tell you the truth, the Villages really is "Florida's Friendliest Hometown". Sounds corny but it is soooo true!

You'll definitely be in the minority but the only real hindrance would be your own attitude. If you go in thinking that these are all old follks, you'll be miserable. If you see them as active adults that you'll have a hard time keeping up with, you'll fit right in. It will be a little more difficult for you to fit in the beginning, but you will find your niche. Most here are pretty accepting -- they don't care how old/young you are (as long as you don't flaunt it); they don't care if you have green skin with fushia polka dots; they even forgive you being a liberal. They do care if you are kind, non-judging, forgiving, generous of spirit, accepting of them as they are, willing to smile and willing to have fun.

We have lived here two years we also maintain our residence in our home town in Kentucky. TV is really special and a very comfortable, friendly place to live. There is always plenty to do. We especially like all the music venues. We are 63 and 60 so we are not young but not that old either. We have both younger and older friends in TV. So a nice mix.
When we return to our Ky. home one of the things we do notice is that the people that we deal with and see day to day are younger. That's something we miss in TV. Sometimes I really get tired of only seeing and interfacing with older people. So we have a nice mix going back to the younger generation in Kentucky then coming to TV to our age group. I didn't answer your question just some food for thought. I think the average age is less than 70 however. |

I am 52, my husband is 62, we just moved here and believe me I will never be able to catch up to some of these people who are 20 or more years older. I love it here so far...have met some wonderful people. Age is only a hinderance if you make it one. Everyone is truly young at heart and that is really all that matters.

My husband and I moved here 2 1/2 years ago when I was 55 and he was 53! Only one person in the household needs to be 55. We have so many wonderful neighbors and have made so many friends...of all ages. There are people here younger than we are...right on my street we have a neighbor in her 40's. Once you live in The Villages, you will find age really is just a number and doesn't matter when it comes to relationships/friendships. Most people here tend to seem so much younger than their years. I'm pretty sure our average age is much lower than 70...particularly in the section south of 466. Come on down and join the fun!

Only if it bothers you, it doesn't matter to us. You will be accepted for who you are, but be sure you can live with it. There is a spread of ages, but no one notices it. I think I heard the average age is 62. If it does not bother you, I think you will love it.

Being hard core football fans, we spent most Sunday afternoons during football season at pub in Spanish Springs cheering on our teams with plenty of other enthusiastic fans enjoying all their games as well...looking forward to more of same this year. We've been playing some tennis, some pickleball, some pool hopping when my 21 year old daughter was visiting...she also now loves TV and may be moving down to finish school/work in the area...we're hoping. So, we've been enjoying about everything about TV since arriving...not thinking at all about our ages compared to others...just that we're old enough to know this is where we want to be & stay for a good long time...and work on keeping up with all that "old folk" lifestyle here! ![]()

I have no proof of my claim, but I feel most of the Villagers now moving into some of the newer villages are in their late 50's early 60's. I closed on my Buttonwood home last week and I am 62. Wife 58. The two neighbors I met are also the same ago.

I Feel like a babe in the woods at 58 --but truthfully --I have seen people in the square, playing pickleball, and golf -- that I know are 10 years older at least ,and will put me to shame with their stamina--I can only hope --TV helps me keep active ---for the next 58 years

Hi
My husband and I are moving into the Village of Pennecamp on 9/3 and we are 59 and 63 and we met some of our neighbors when we were there in May and everyone seemed to be in their late 50's to early 60's. They may have been much older but they sure didn't look it or act it. It's all in the attitude! Come and enjoy. We're champing at the bit to get there and leaving here in MA next week. |
