Default What is there to do, if you don'tgolf, play tennis orpickleball?

Hi everyone, We are coming to TV this Tuesday and I was wondering what there is to do during the day if you don't want to golf or play tennis.?
We came last Sept for the lifestyle preview plan and we really liked it a lot. We have our home on the market now trying to sell it. We will be renting a house in the Villages for a month. I like water sports ,but I know that only permanent home owners can use the lap pools and take water exercise classes. Can we go visit any of the many clubs? can we take any classes? What do people in TV do for fun during the day? We know about the entertainment at night in the squares. Please let me know, my husband is not sure what to do and I don't want him sitting around the house all month watching tv. Thanks in advance for all your help. This site has been very helpful

Here are a few sites that will help you find something to do.
Also, just go to one of the squares in the evening and say hi to the person sitting next to you, and ask the question. You will get the full story.......villagers love to talk about The Villages.

There are all kinds of classes thru life long learning as well as a bunch of things offered at rec centers (grab a Rec News at any rec center as soon as you get here). Rec News also lists clubs meetings. If your hubby belongs to the Legion, we have the world's largest post here with activities. Big Marine Corps League detachment. Many of the fraternal organizations meet during the day (reality of folks who have degrees of difficulty driving after dark.

There are bocce courts and shuffleboard courts at all of the rec centers (and mail facilities). Some have horse shoes, some have cornhole. There are archery ranges. You can go watch a softball game at any of the 3 sets of fields. You can go for a long walk (or golf cart ride) along the multimodal paths.

Several state parks not far away. Also a number of nice towns - Mt Dora is a favorite for the artsy set.

Contrary to popular opinion, you aren't locked up on campus. Feel free to explore. You can go see manatees, take tours on some of the rivers and do all kinds of stuff.

Disney, Universal, and Seaworld are about an hour down the tollroad. September is a nice quiet time to go - you may be surprised how much fun it is for adults without kids in tow.

Most of all, have fun.

You can rent bikes at Villages Cycle in Spainish Springs and ride around. It's a great way to get exercise and get your bearings on the geography of TV.

Besides playing golf and softball, I spend 4 or 5 days a week at the MVP Health Club at Brownwood. You'll find as the older you get the more you'll need to use it, or you'll lose it. You could get a free 3 days pass and do anything that a regular member does, and if you like it, join for a month.

It sounds like you know you want to exercise, but don't know where. I see new people vastly out of shape come into the facility everyday and there's no better time to start than right now.

FYI, if you get the resident pass for $50.00 while renting, you will have access to everything, including the sports pools.

I don't play golf, hate most ball games (poor depth perception) and am inherently lazy. I do, however, love board and card games. Lots of those to play here. Exercise classes. Classes for everything imaginable. Volunteers needed for almost anything that interests you. A few different remote control clubs for cars, planes and automobiles. Archery. There is so much to do whether you're into golf or not, both indoor and outdoor activities. As I tell folks, you're as busy as you want to be. The degree of participation is entirely up to you but there is no way to be bored unless you choose that route.

Have fun on your visit!

I have been here for a year and haven't had a chance to take up pickleball and golf. I still find the time, speeds by.

Look at Thursday paper, "the rec news" section. There are numerous activities that your husband may want to get invovled with, such as clubs. He can visit the pools and grab a golf cart and explore TV. There is always the Eisenhower Rec Center that is impressive.

Believe me, the month will fly by. There is so much to do and see. Traveling around wil give you a good idea of where everything is, so you will be more familiar, when you move here.

Getting a pass from your landlord, will give you access to everything except the golf courses.

You will be amazed on how big TV is. Have a good time!!!

Try to visit every recreation center/facility and eat one meal a day at a different country club restaurant!

Like Red says - get the resident pass from the owner of the house you are renting. Then you can swim in the lap pool, play water volleyball or water aerobics and more. (Try taking a golf lesson and play the exec courses for free if you get the swing of it)

We've been here for a month and haven't had time to take a nap. You'll be as busy as you want to be. Just don't stay at home.

If you get really bored, you can go down to Lake Sumter Landing in the middle of the night and....... ummm, sit on the bandstand.

Be sure and stop by any recreation center and pick up a copy of The Recreation News which will list many of the activities for the week. A new copy comes out on Thursday.

It is important to get the pass described by many in previous posts. If you do not have a golf cart with your rental you must get one for your entire stay as that is a major part of what we do. Also pick up a map so you can explore in your golf cart. If you need help in renting a golf cart just ask on this site.

Enjoy your visit.

Go to the ticket offices, pick out a show or two to go go. Also go to Katie Belles for lunch, always entertainments . A golf cart is a must, you can have fun just driving around stopping at various rec centers, country clubs, pools, etc...why not take a pickleball lesson, you might like it. This is a perfect time to try out any classes and activities.
