The person who discussed the possible modification of the weight of the trigger pull apparently does not realize that changing the weight at which the trigger "breaks" to fire the pistol does not change the distance that the trigger must be pulled before the pistol will fire. The relatively long trigger pull is required to move an internal cross-track safety on the firing pin and to move the firing pin far enough back to compress the firing pin spring so it will move forward with adequate force to fire the cartridge. The only way to fire a Glock is to pull the trigger - a long way. Now, to the larger point: WHAT KIND OF IDIOT TAKES A GUN TO BED WITH HIM? ![]() |

What kind of idiot takes a pistol to a movie theater and kills a man who tosses popcorn? Hmmmm? Maybe a Chief of Police who was a certified instructor? |

"Margaret McCollom's condition was upgraded Saturday from critical to serious. It was upgraded again on Sunday to fair condition."
"Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard said criminal charges are possible but they would wait for the GBI to complete their investigation. "We have no leanings one way or the other at this point because we just don't know. There are a lot of things we don't know yet about what took place that we need to know before we can make any decisions," Ballard told Channel 2's Aaron Diamant." Peachtree City police chief |

What is it with Police Chiefs? The Chief of Police of Connersville, Indiana, just now accidently shot himself for the second time.
Last time it was in the hand; this time it's in the leg. He was in a gun shop and the incident is on video. He had pulled out his Glock service pistol and was returning it to its holster when the knob on a drawstring on the bottom of his jacket became entangled inside the trigger guard. He continued to push the gun into the holster against the heightened resistance and.....bang. Got him in the leg. There have been other reports of people getting the knob on their jacket drawstring entangled with their pistol and having accidental discharges. Clothing problem; not pistol problem. I will not own a Glock because of the trigger safety. I prefer 1911s because of the dual safety. You not only have to put the manual safety on fire but you also have to squeeze the back of the hand grip to release that safety. My Kimber has never accidentally fired and most likely never will.

[QUOTE=Carl in Tampa;990240]I was a factory trained and certified Glock armorer. If you want it to fire, the trigger must be pulled.
The person who discussed the possible modification of the weight of the trigger pull apparently does not realize that changing the weight at which the trigger "breaks" to fire the pistol does not change the distance that the trigger must be pulled before the pistol will fire. Please don't misquote me. If you go back and read my statement "carefully" you will see that I never mentioned the "distance" of the trigger, only the "resistance" of the trigger. While a factory trained and certified Glock armorer sounds impressive, all Glock stocking firearm dealers across the US (which I was for 20+ years) are given this same course free of charge (at their choice of training locations) every single year just for selling their guns. It is an informative hands on course though which teaches all aspects of the Glock firearm. Why are there so many accidential police discharges with their duty weapons? My take is because too many law enforcement officers become to cocky/comfortable with their weapon and think that because of their intensive training and their job, they are incapable of making such a careless mistake. In my county back in TN we had a Sheriff who was elected on his credentials of having been a former FBI agent in the state of New York. After he was elected it later came to be known that when he worked for the FBI in NY, he shot himself in the foot with his duty Glock and afterward became the laughing stock of that NY agency! On a more tragic note, one of our long time county deputies was at home on his porch with his son cleaning firearms, when he passed his son his "unloaded" Glock service weapon to clean. This gun went off in his teenage son's chest killing him instantly! |

My laptop has finger print recognition. It's a fairly inexpensive HP. I wonder if that technology could be used on a gun for the home owner not the police. Only the person owning the gun could fire the gun.
Of course this does not address the illegal use of guns. |
