Just think if the Indians had Winchesters where would we be now.
We cry about school shooting as we should .Look back in history as see how murderous our own government has been.
We talk of Hitler ..The British past isn't so pure either

Do some study on the 1968 Gun Ban Law. You will find that most of the law was a translation of the German Gun Ban Law, I believe, of 1933, that Hitler used in 1935. Might want to rethink banning guns, just ask some of the citizens of Germany, the USSR, Cambodia, etc, how it worked out for them.

Definitely, posters should check out their quotes before putting them on this forum. The above quote has been proven to be bogus. Look at the proof.

Just think what The Villages is going to look like in a few years if this paranoid propaganda is allowed to continue...armed guards at all the guard houses, police officers at all the malls and movie theaters. Some builders have already started putting steel bars over windows of some of the new villas. What's next? The accordian style steel, used by NYC businesses, over sliding glass doors?

It wasn't like this a few years ago, and the crime rate has not increased.

The NRA can try to stop this ban on assault weapons, or whatever they're called, but trust me there are far more mothers than there are NRA members, and they are not going to stand for more children being slaughtered IMO.

There are more mothers than you could imagine that belong to the NRA and are carrying. Also there are more gun owners than you could imagine that don't belong to the NRA.
I've been a shooter all my adult life and have no interest in assault weapons. I've always been interested in accuracy with a few well placed rounds. That said once the assault weapons would be banned then they would go after pistols, rifles and shotguns. Then bow and arrows. I guess slingshots and knives should be next. BUT, I guarantee you there would be just as many assault rifles out there anyway. Just like the ban on alcohol. Didn't work did it?

Well, if the Daily Kos, Huffington Post, or Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence says that it is false, then it must be false.

Here is some info for those who are so willing to dismiss some sources for various reasons but grab on with gusto sources that agree with them. Read and enlighten yourself.

The "Hitler" Quote That Wouldn't Die: "1935 Will Go Down In History!"

"This year* will go down in history! For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!"
---Falsely attributed to Adolf Hitler, "Abschied vom Hessenland!" ["Farewell to Hessia!"], ['Berlin Daily' (Loose English Translation)], April 15th, 1935, Page 3 Article 2, Einleitung Von Eberhard Beckmann [Introduction by Eberhard Beckmann].
This quotation, often seen without any date or citation at all, suffers from several credibility problems, the most significant of which is that the date given (*in alternate versions, the words "This year..." are replaced by "1935..." has no correlation with any legislative effort by the Nazis for gun registration, nor would there have been a need for the Nazis to pass such a law, since gun registration laws passed by the Weimar government were already in effect. The Nazi Weapons Law (or Waffengesetz) which further restricted the possession of militarily useful weapons and forbade trade in weapons without a government-issued license was passed on March 18, 1938.
The citation usually given for this quote is a jumbled mess, and has only three major clues from which to work. The first is the date, which does not correspond (even approximately) to a date on which Hitler made a public speech, and a check of the texts of Hitler's speeches does not reveal a quotation resembling this (which is easily understandable when you realize that "Hitler" is commenting on a non-existent law). The second clue is the newspaper reference, which if translated into German resembles the title of a newspaper called Berliner Tageblatt, and a check of the issue for that date reveals that the page and column references given are to the arts and culture page! No Hitler speech appears in the pages of Berliner Tageblatt on that date, or dates close to it, because there was no such speech to report.

Finally, the citation includes a proper name "Eberhard Beckmann," which is sometimes cited as "by Einleitung Von Eberhard Beckmann," which is an important clue itself, because it reveals that the citation was fabricated by someone who had so little knowledge of the German language that they were unaware that "Einleitung" isn't the fellow's first name! The only "Eberhard Beckmann" which has been uncovered thus far did indeed write introductions, but he was a journalist for a German broadcasting company after WWII, and he wrote several introductions to photography books, one of which was photos of the German state of Hesse (or Hessia), which may be the source of the curious phrase "Abschied vom Hessenland!" which appears in the citation. This quotation, however effective it may be as propaganda, is a fraud.

That slippery slope works both ways. It's assault weapons now with mega clips, years from now the weapons will technically be even better with the ability to carry even more clips. If I had my way I would rather either move back to previous ban instead of doing nothing.

It's still one of my favorite quotes, false or not.

Sorry, but weapons won't have the "...ability to carry more clips''. Semi-automatic weapons utilize MAGAZINES not clips. A clip is inserted into the magazine to load the magazine with cartridges. A cartridge is comprised of a cartridge case, a primer, a propellant or powder (stick or ball), and a bullet or projectile. The magazine is then inserted into the weapon. It might help your argument is you know something about what you are talking about.

One poster says that a supposed statement by Adolf Hitler about gun control is his favorite statement even though it has been proved that Hitler never said it. He then goes on to argue semantics about the proper nomenclature of a "magazine" or a "clip".

It is amazing that the gun nuts try and link people who want a sane private gun ownership requirement with Adolf Hitler or some other tyrant. Just more of the NRA yada-yada-yada that makes no sense whatsoever. When they cannot come up with any sensible statement, they then go to demeaning others with "It might help your argument is you know something about what you are talking about."

Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't own a firearm and don't belong to the NRA or any other gun organization. But at least I'm no so ignorant as to think that the difference between a "clip" and a "magazine" is "sematics". They both serve very different purposes, which I pointed out in my post. Also, my post about the Hitler quote being my favorites had a "smiley face" after it. I WAS A JOKING!

Furthermore, I never meant to demean the poster that referred to "magazines' as "clips''. It's just that he has a obvious lack of basic firearm knowledge, and that lack of knowledge weakens his argument in the eyes of many. To me, an argument by someone with at least some basic knowledge of firearms is more compelling than an argument based almost entirely on emotion.

The terms may have been wrong and I am sorry about that but you know entirely what my point was, don't hide behind the terms as an excuse. The basic fact is weapons will continue to evolve and improve on their basic purpose, kill people. 20 years from now I would hate to see them in the publics hands. The time to setup their ban is now not down the road when we will be having the same arguments albeit with more mass killings.
