The radar mages look pretty ominous for TV and surrounding area. Lots of dark red storms moving thru....

Not that I'm aware of John, I love my weather radio, but it is only a link in the chain, I always use it in conjunction with other sources, but when I'm sleeping it is my first and maybe my only source.

My weather radio woke me up today at 6:45 AM with a Tornado Watch. I wish the darn radios could be programmed to just wake you up with a Tornado Warning. Then I could just roll out of bed and into the master bedroom closet with dogs in tow.

Chels, our was programmed by the local Fireboys who are happy to do it. Are you sure you had yours turned on?

I'm confused because ours started going off early this evening. We tried to set ours for 3 counties, Lake, Marion and ours Sumter. Is that right? But, it did not go off like everyone's at 6:45 am? Do you all have one county or the surrounding also? Please let me know. Thanks

Chels, I think yours was set up by a "right-wing conspirator"..... LOL! Better go back and have it reprogrammed by a leftie.

Hi Chel,

We had ours set by the fire department. The first time it went off, we felt relieved, we knew it worked.

After the third time it went off, we stopped running to hear the updates. We have lived through many thunderstorms, tornadoes never.

The irony is, here we are in tornado country, and we do not have a basement. We got one suggestion from a friend, build a bomb shelter.

From wikipedia:

"Although no state is entirely free of tornadoes, they are most frequent in the Plains area between the Rocky and Appalachian Mountains and in the state of Florida. The state where twisters most commonly occur is Texas (notably due to its size of where tornadoes can occur).[1] When land area is taken into account, however, Florida has the highest density of tornado occurrence in the country.[2] However nearly all of Florida's tornadoes are weak, short lived and not produced by supercell thunderstorms; Oklahoma has the highest occurrence of such "classic" supercellular tornadoes. In contrast, the Northeast and West tend to be the least tornado-prone regions in the
United States."

So, take your pick, Florida with storms, Northeast with snow, or West with earthquakes. Hmmmm. HB, we must be philosophical about this (start digging).

Village Kid,

I think Z should have posted this on things to consider before moving to TV. Must admit, I never even thought of tornadoes.

VK I will take the snow, better survival rate, and not that I am retired I do not have to go into the office each day.

If we both dig together we can get the job done faster, do you think we will create a sink hole as we dig?

Does TV have the official big outdoor warning sirens located anywhere?

Sometimes a weather radio can make you a little crazy by crying, "Wolf!"

TV does not have any outdoor warning systems. My wife and I were in the Feb. 2, 2007 tornado. Weather radios didn't work in Sumter country then. They work great now but unless you set it up to do only your county then you will get a lot of warnings. Buy a radio that you can program. It seems to me that most of the really nasty weather comes in TV from the Southwest. The warnings really get our attention now. I am not sure of the following but I think that Marion county weather warnings come from Jacksonville, while Lake and Sumter come out of Tampa.
