This happened in Marion County and it sounds like in an area outside of The Villages(???) There was an eyewitness but the deceased is not named.

The first word is villages and the second word is news and there is a hyphen in tbe middle. It is a dot com

The story doesn't make a lot of sense. When I looked up the address it's northeast of Lake Weir off Rt 25, which the article confirms by saying the incident happened in the Lake Ocklawaha area. The article said a women after hearing a loud noise at 2:20 in the morning, went to investigate and she found the victim and recognized him as a neighbor. How does this information lead a news writer to believe it involved a villager?

Odd that it's that far outside TV (a couple of miles the other side of Lake Weir) and the victim was walking at 2:20 in the morning and the eyewitness was his neighbor?

A person hit a human being and left him on the side of the road to die or dead. I was confused as well about the location and Villager connection.

Unfortunetly just another reflection of where our society is heading as a whole---total lack of personal responsibility. The driver probably views himself as the victim---after all, this pedestrian got in his way at 2:20 AM, he feels "entitled" to use the road without sharing. Why should I ruin my life over him? I'll just leave the body lying there on the road like a squirrel or raccoon. The "government" should clean up my mess

I want to acknowledge that this is a sad event indeed.

However hit and run accident have been going on since the beginning of time.

It is with this thought that it makes it all the worse because you would want to believe that we would be more civilized by now.

As some of you know i spent my entire career in insurance and unfortunately the fact is hit and run accidents are a common as doughnuts.

I recall investigating a pedestrian accident wherein a 20 year old woman was struck down and left on the highway only to have another car dragged her some 500 feet. Who I thought would not have come to this woman's aid leaving her there like a dog? We insured the second car. a president of a large corporation he did all he could to avoid what he thought was a winter coat lying in the road. He was totally unhinged and suffered pangs of guilty that probably followed him his entire life. In fact you could see the sadness overcome everyone who was some way involved in this investigation and ensuing follow ups

The hit and run driver was never found.

This was an attention grabbing headline by the online news source that was incredibly short on details and facts. For some reason, I expected better from this news source. In my mind you are correct in your thinking, and there is a whole lot more to this tragedy than what is known. It is sad when any human being is injured or loses their life senselessly. At some point the facts will be known.

Odds are the driver was impaired. Sadly, for too many, the money and consequences comes before a life. It is much easier and cheaper to come forth the next day and say you didn't know you'd hit a human -- you thought it was a dog, a log, a bump in the road. Penalties would be far less. And, of course, there is the chance you'll never get caught if you don't turn yourself in. Taking responsibility for your actions really does seem to be far too common today.

OK, I went to the online news, and yes the headline says Villager hit......so I am guessing that the FHP have something to indicate the individual has a Villages address.

Also, according to the same online source, Marion County police are looking for a pickup truck, NO idea if this is related.

The article says, "The deceased male has not been identified pending notification of next of kin."

And so what do they do? Provide just enough info to the public via worldwide web, to leave more questions than answers, while the next of kin don't even know he's dead yet.

And so red meat is thrown to "inquiring minds who want to know", and they feed on filling in the blanks with their own stories….until facts reveal whether the victim actually lived in The Villages, in Ocklawaha, or in Tumbuktu.

Anyone who has lived in Florida for a few years is well aware that if you hit someone with your car, you don't ever stop. This is especially true in the Orlando area.
