Just had my popcorn ceiling removed. I used Billys Drywall in Summerfield. Did a very good job.

We are having ours removed tomorrow for $1.00 a sq ft., I can let you know how it goes. We just bought in the older section and the house is empty, it is very messy. We had the popcorn removed in CA when we lived there, but they are coming about 8:00 (Sunday morning) and will be done early afternoon.

If you buy a smaller home (less square footage) you want volume ceilings , it gives the feeling of more openess to the room....A larger home you may want to consider a normal 8 foot flat ceiling because of heating and cooling cost...If money is not an issue then go volume all the way...

They still offer the regular ceiling in the patio villas and a volume ceiling is about $2,000 more. I've never seen a designer without a volume ceiling and CYV's only have volume ceiling and tray in the bedrooms. If you're thinking of resale, I would only get a volume ceiling.

We bought a CYV and wouldn't look at anything older than 2005 because most of them had a flat 8' ceilling, the rooms seem so much smaller and closed in. Heating and cooling these homes in TV's is not that expensive. We ended up purchasing a new 2011 CYV and our average electric bill has been about $100 a month. The homes are very well built with the latest A/C systems.

We have popcorn ceilings in our home built in 2004 and cannot see what the big deal is with them. I don't walk around at home looking up at the ceilings. And when I wake up in the morning, I don't have my glasses on!

We have a 3-BR CYV in which there are volume ceilings in every room (and even every closet!) except for the guest BR. Even if it costs a bit more to heat and cool, we wouldn't have it any other way. There is such a feeling of spaciousness that adds so much to our perceived quality of living; it's almost luxurious!

I should add that we replaced our entire a/c system this past summer. The house was built with an undersized unit in which the coil was starting to rust through. In hot weather it ran constantly, and in very hot weather it never fully cooled (kept at 78 degrees). We felt why wait for the inevitable; let's go ahead and do it. We never realized how much difference it would make such a difference!
