Default Changing a baby's dirty diaper at Starbucks

I saw on the FOX site that a 30-something Mom had to change the dirty diaper of her baby at a Starbuck's in Denver. No changing table was in the restroom so the Mom changed the "poopy" diaper on the chair at her table!!

What would the reaction be at the Lake Sumter Landing Starbucks if a young mother (or a grandmother) changed the smelly diaper of a baby on a chair in the dining area?

Why couldn't the mom have taken baby outside to her car or just outside?

The news(?) article did not mention if any patrons said anything to the mom. However, I know I would have voiced my viewpoint to her!

What would any of you have done or said?

Knowing me, I would have gagged and probably lost my lunch on mom and baby. I understand her needing a place to change her infant, but at a table or chair in a public restaurant is not the place. It's not easy but you can change a baby on your lap in the toilet. BTDT with my squirmy grandson. There are other, better solutions.

Maybe so, but when you are a young mom dealing with this day to day it probably isn't even a blip on your radar screen.

Reminds me of my daughter's First Communion when the whole family when out to lunch at a very nice restaurant. My 1 year old son was just recovering from a serious bout with some not so nice intestinal issues and unfortunately let loose in his chair in the restaurant. My mother (God bless her) was probably around 65 when this happened and casually asked the waiter for more napkins and cleaned up the mess. To this day I hold dear to my heart how she showed me how not to be embarrassed by life's happenings and to move on.

As they say "s_ _ t" happens and you deal with it and move on. Give her a break she may have been devastated or she may have just been a jerk. Consider she is "young and dumb" and forgive her if she upset your apple cart.

I agree. What's the big deal? This is a baby whose mother is taking proper care of him or her....

It's one thing for a baby have an accident in a restaurant (unavoidable situation) and quite another to decide to change a dirty diaper where people are eating (very avoidable situation).

And shame on Starbuck's for not having diaper changing station.

A few years back, I was a manager at a community clubhouse which was the center of a family community. They had a very nice pool deck with Cabana's which housed tables and chairs. This habit of changing babies on the tables was common. My favorite word was "unbelievable" as there was a ladies and mens restroom steps away, both with changing tables.
It's just the way things are now. "UNBELIEVABLE"!

THIS is the issue that makes what this mother did unavoidable. This should be addressed with Starbucks.

Unavoidable? I would have sought a private place, like my car, or an outside bench, or somewhere other than where others are eating. It's not just manners, it is a health issue as well.

We all had babies and we all went to restaurants. I don't remember any changing tables in restaurant bathrooms when Martha Washington and me went out for a sandwich.

It wasn't nice or thoughtful of others THEN and it isn't now.

Plus, even if it is baby poop. It has some unsharable germs in it.

I think to be a Villager, you have to become poop fixated.

On another note. Good morning friends. Can't we find a funner subject?

Good idea. How about dog poop in mail station trash cans. Equally as disgusting as this thread. Those who think it's OK to change diapers in restaurants are probably the same ones that dump dog poop in public places. Shame on all of you.

I have found that people don't really appreciate my advice with these sorts of things, the Starbucks manager should have said something.

I have spoken to parents of out of control children in restaurants and stores, it never works. They just act like I'm crazy.

This is the sign of the times--no consideration for others, who are paying money to eat/drink there in a dining area, not in a public bathroom.

And it's a sign of younger people being taught no manners nor that certain things like bodily functions are private. When Tom Cruise and then-wife bronzed their daughter's first dump and had it on display in an art gallery and then sold it, it exemplified the "culture" and what is literally idolized (think golden calf in the bible)...
Here's Suri's First Poop!

As another poster said above, we always managed to go to the car, bench in the mall where nobody else was nearby, bench/chair outside, etc. And the restaurants are usually required by health department laws to have a pull-down changing table in the restrooms. Starbucks should have been cited for that.

Yes, improvise or better yet don't bring the kid to Starbucks.

Another thing that grosses me out is when they sit the kid up on the counter.
