I have a friend that lives near Havana...
. The next door neighbor is driving me nuts. She sits on her lanai talking on the phone in an extremely loud, nasal, New Jersey type accent. She sounds like a duck quacking. We can hear every word she says. Or, as she is doing tonight (and the past few nights), she is with a bunch of women on her lanai, and they are all talking, laughing, screaming, howling to the point I can't go on our lanai. We can hear them in the street, in our attic, in our bedroom -- everywhere. Last night it was well past eleven PM (I went to bed with earplugs). Any Ideas?

Play load music with the speakers facing her direction and when she complains, say sorry I was just trying to drown out your load noise. I will stop if you do.

Is it a North Jersey or South Jersey accent? Doesn't matter...continue wearing your earplugs or you might try talking with her! She may not know she is loud!

Invite an amateurish, loud, out of tune garage band, heavy metal, Rap, whatever sounds the worst, to practice on your lanai when she is out there talking loudly.

I think your first step is to talk to her. Let her know your concerns. You can also remind her of the deed restrictions............
Section 13 page 6 Owner(s) shall use his property in such a manner as to allow his neighbors to enjoy the use of his property. Radios, record players, televisions, voices and other sounds are to be kept on a moderate level from 10:00 PM to one (1) hour before daylight. These restrictions shall not apply to construction noises being made by the Declarant. All of the deed restrictions can be found at Village Community Development Districts |

Loud talking seems to be a characteristic of many people from that part of the Northeast. They often live in crowded and extremely noisy environments. I think it's in their DNA to talk in loud voices to be heard.
In the last place we lived we had a neighbor like that. Our problem was solved when we moved to TV. You have my sympathy 'cause you were not so lucky. |

Nothing worse than an inconsiderate neighbor. I think most of the time they have no idea that their voice travels. Ask them if YOU are quiet enough for THEM??? Then, when they say yes, they will probably ask if they are quiet enough for you. And you can say....as a matter of fact....

Something tells me that this woman would not welcome a face to face with you. Perhaps the next time she gathers on her Lanai with her friends you should record the noise level and then hand her the recording, Keep a copy in case you have to call the authrorities

carla - surely you post in gest! as a born and bred jersey girl down to the bone, i can assure you that most of us from the northeast do not have to "talk in loud voices to be heard" - nor for ANY other reason!

Take some booze over for her/them to drink. Maybe she'll pass out early.

This is my biggest fear about living in a place where people are so close to together. If you are in an apartment in that situation, you can move pretty easily. If you have bought your home, you're a little more "stuck".

It has more to do with the people that one encounters, than the size of the lot.

We met our neighbors when we were there last week and thankfully they are calm, soft spoken folks. We hit the jackpot! Unfortunately, you can't pick your neighbors.
