Default The Day After Tomorrow re new ice age

Tornado touches down in beachfront NYC neighborhood - U.S. News
We just finished watching the Blu-ray version of "THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW" starring Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal , when global warming triggers a new ICE AGE, tornados flatten Los Angeles, a tidal wave engulfs New York City and the entire northern hemisphere begins to freeze solid.........which by the way, was a great movie with great special effects, from the same director of INDEPENDENCE DAY.

I turned on the computer to check my emails and the MSN news was showing a tornado that touched down in a beachfront New York neighborhood...........hyperlink above. Three hours earlier.

I noticed on the weather that Bergen County New Jersey was also under a Tornado warning.......then we turned on our t.v. and the weather channel is showing that our town here in Vermont is also under a tornado warning............this is freaky weather.

It seems a massive cold front is coming across the entire northeast.
Just a little unnerving to see the tornado warnings after watching the movie.........

In "The Day After Tomorrow" Florida remained "safe" from the massive ice cover and people headed south and to Mexico. The flooding scenes were out of this world........as the seas rose and flooded into lower Manhattan..........enough excitement for today.

We've noticed a definite climate change these past 43 years up here.

Do you have a weather radio Senior? The weather today has indeed been a bit different than what one is more accustomed to, that's for sure. If no radio, time to keep tv on.

Stay safe.

Really, it's a practice run for you Jimbo....sort of getting a taste of what you could encounter in more southerly, middle of the state starting with F.... You and yours stay safe, too.

I've been wintering in FL for several years and have done a lot of traveling around these monsters in our RV all over the USA.

When driving I keep a laptop on the dash with radar, (my verizon air card is priceless at those times) it helps, but ..... driving is more risk at times than being in home.

Just had an 110 MPH hit in NYC a I think an F1, most of the bad stuff in north of us in CT into MA.

For two to hit NYC is unheard of here. It's just very rare in NY.

Thankfully, no one was reported injured at Breezy Point during the tornado. A week ago, that beach and beach club would have been packed with people on Labor Day weekend.

Yes we do, as well as a scanner. No tornados touched down in Vermont but the warnings were out there. We just had strong winds and heavy rains. Our ovenights are going down into the low '40s tonight and the high for today will be 67 degrees with full sunshine and will remain the same for about a week , or so says the local meteorologist. Perfect crisp autumn weather after a pretty muggy humid summer.

Springfield, MA tornado: Video footage of twister that killed 4 in Massachusetts | Mail Online

ABOVE HYPERLINK shows the destruction of the SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS tornado a short time ago in 2011........keep scrolling downward for the awesome photos.......it happened at evening "rush hour"..........unbelievable. Huge amount of photos with videos at the end.

The last tornado I recall that was similar to the link above was back in the 1990's when a teacher was driving his students ; the tornado picked up his van and transported them across the road.....they all perished. I believe that was in the Berkshires someplace.
We had one in our town about the same time but it only took a few roofs off north of us.
Nothing like the MIDWEST.

But do check out the above link, which I was amazed to find in the London England newspaper.........the photos at the very bottom show the bridge, etc. and the fury of the tornado in Springfield, Massachusetts which isn't that far from us, off the Mass Pike.

Again, tornados are rare in Vermont, but northern Vermont has seen funnel clouds that tear off barn roofs, home roofs and cause damage to the extreme........but again, nothing like the midwest or south.

There are about 30+ photos and several videos of the Springfield Mass . tornado plus quite an interesting newspaper article from the Daily Mail United Kingdom newspaper.
I'm thinking that tornados are NOT an excuse to avoid Florida for retirement; as they can happen anywhere lately............

To our good neighbors across the border in Mass. and N.Y. and N.H., stay safe in this recent unpredictable weather. The New York Beach tornado was out of this world.
My dad used to take us to Coney Island and Far Rockaway ; he had relatives in Brooklyn, Staten Island and of course New York City and out on Long Island as well. Many of them had originated in lower Manhattan (from Italy) as I was thinking while watching the anniversary documentaries of 911 in N.Y.C. A storm of another kind.

and yet there are a whole lot of people who think that global warming does not exist. wake up. have you not noticed that over our lifetimes that the vegetation has changed. plants that you could not grow because they would freeze over winter can now be grown (ex. crape myrtles in southeast pennsylvania; palmettos on the delmarva peninsula). it is real and it is happening!

You are correct and right on target.

I've noticed it for at least a dozen or more years, having lived in Vermont for the past 43 years.

Once upon a time you could tell the seasons like clockwork.
January "thaw" always came on January 15th or thereabouts.
Not so anymore. First of all, there hasn't been much snow or ice to thaw out. Mostly rain.

Also, the "thawing" seems to begin earlier with heavy rains in November and December in place of all the snow.........not every year, but often.

The beautiful month of May which used to be glorious is now a rainy season. In the summer, we'd get a summer thunderstorm to break the heat which was rare. Lately, it's lasted all summer long with rain very often during the week.

The very brief summer weather would break in mid August and autumn weather would begin..........lately, it stays hot longer.

The weather pattern has just changed. it is getting warmer and more humid and hotter, if truth be told.

Last year, we gave our grandson one of the super big LLBEAN sonic tubes for sledding downhill; they live in a rural northern part of Vermont.
He had NO SNOW. USED IT ONCE. His elementary school had planned weekend ice skating, skiing, tabogganing for the children..........cancelled each week due to lack of snow. Very weird weather.

Actually, there was one whole decade back in the 1990's that hardly any snow fell and many of those children, now in their late 20's didn't get to use their sleds, skiis, etc. at all.

That reminds me of one hunting season that my husband went hunting (twenty some years ago) in shirtsleeve weather with no snow on the ground to see the deer tracks. Normally, they would wear woolen jackets, warm winter stuff.........

Lots of changes. One March about 12 years ago it was 95 degrees in our town..........now that is unheard of. WE had to take my mom to the hospital and they had no airconditioning.......everyone was suffering with the heat. She had fallen at the senior center and was taken by ambulence. We met her there..........the 95 degrees in March was the talk of the hospital...........

When we came home, all of the WILD FLOWERS and blossoming trees were in bloom TOO EARLY as it was only March which usually gets ice storms and snow. It still snows in April up here...........these are just small things but in the larger scheme of things I do see global warming............but then again, they talk about a new ice age. We can't win.

Good movie & I do believe in Global Warming, but wouldn't FL be under water as it is so close to sea level, even TV?
