If bills look good but someone attaches a rider for repealling Obamacare, it will be vetoed. The President does not have a line item veto.

For any bill to get out of Congress now and onto the President's desk it is going to have to be a bi-partisan effort in crafting it; therefore, full repeal bills will not be likely, and compromise will have to accomplish small steps such as repealing the medical device tax, etc.

Can we really expect the Chief Executive to veto bi-partisan legislation that accomplishes some of what he want to get done for his legacy? Imagine leaving office with the reputation of becoming the President of No? The ego is to big to permit that. The betting book will be about what bills get to his desk for signature!

You pegged it. Without the rule changes that Reid put into the Senate to snuff out debate and ammendments, they can get to business as it was intended.

Today, sadly, so many think of politics in terms of party, party, party which means it is like a sporting event. MAYBE with any luck, instead of looking at things like veto power, etc, we can start to look at the specific issues facing the country.

Now the Senate will allow ammendments, debate and all those things that have been considered ugly and un american for years.

The biggest surprises to me were a republican governor in maryland, mass., and illinois. No surprise the cover this morning of the new york post. President with a barrell around him and comment emporer stripped.

Many years of disappointments have taught me to "watch what I wish for"
And I believe that applies to Republicans. The mandate was not so much for Republicans but a signal that voters are sick of the gridlock and partisan fighting. The vote also was a strong indication that people did not much like Obama's policies and governance.

There are many things wrong with our political system and one glowing weakness is that politicians are always in a campaigning mode. So both sides already are laying out strategy for the 2016 presidential election.

You know that saying "I rather be right than president ". Well Obama adopted that strategy forgetting he was appointed to be president of and for the people.

He is in my view an obsessive and as such he will fight the Republicans with phone and pen. he will do whatever damage he can to get to get even with Republican with whom he blames for his bad performance and to support the bid for a Democratic president.

The Republican majority needs to be very careful on how they play their cards. I hope the Republicans leaders have been studying/practicing their best statesmanship because they are going to need these skills

Illinois should not have been too surprising. In the last 50 years there have been 5 Republican and 5 Democratic governors. At inauguration it will be 6 to 5.

I have no problem with people stating what they like or not....to each his own....very often those likes are translated into an opinion and then offered as an authicated position. And sometimes we interpret it that way (I know I have on ocassion)!
