Good morning,
Just when I thought it was safe to go back in the lettuce, the news is now of parasites lurking. I have always, always, always scrubbed fresh produce in a somewhat neurotic manner. Kind of like Monk would do. Or Lady MacBeth, “Out! Out! Damned E. coli! Out! Out! Damned bugs!” I was told that spraying produce with vinegar when washing is a good idea in general. But I don’t know if that really helps. Keeping up with these recalls is turning into a full time job. (I do not look at the news constantly.) Anyway, I think there has to be an app that keeps up with recalls and stays current. Does anybody know? |

It is something that we probably shouldn't be thinking about much if we want to continue eating fresh produce.
We don't know WHERE it's been, WHO handled it and how it was watered and where the water had been and who peed in it. I still trust Publix, but I did beat them to the information on the last scare about Romaine and returned three of the packets with salad fixings that oldest daughter had recommended as yummy. Our Helene has fixed a fresh salad every day for lunch for years and has never been sick.

set one up for lettuce recalls---once a day or as it happens--maybe add FDA----maybe add the stores you shop----right now Kroogers is have a recall but I don't think there is a Krogers down----I'm not sure of that but you get the point. |

When I stayed in Ecuador one summer long ago, the housemaids washed the produce in a weak bleach and water solution.
