barb1191,
a permanent Florida license (not "Florida only" license) can be used for the homestead exemption. Also, it's not required, you can instead file a domocile affadavit of some kind with the court.

Well Muncle, thanks! I didn't know I was so anal retentive, until you informed me! I still have my original SS card. It's only a little dog-eared. I just thought I was slightly well-organized to still have it.

As I understand it, could be wrong, you need a Florida drivers license in order to register a vehicle. I want to buy one and leave it their for use while I am there so I want it registered there. So I need a Florida only license to make that happen. That is what I understand from reading many threads on this topic. Correct anyone?

B. Assuming y'all are in the 50-60-70 age bracket, you've probably had a SS card for anywhere from 30 to 55 years. Yet I often hear people asking for an original SS card. How anal retentive would one have to be to have the original card after 55 years? A birth certificate, a marriage/divorce certificate, even a DD 214 I could see. but those came later in life. I got my card in my mid teens. I doubt if I could have found it 6 months later.

We had to get a Fla driver's license to register and insure the car we leave in Fla.

That's what I was told at FL DMV when I got my FL only driver's license a couple of months ago.

I guess it depends on the office and the DMV employee...at the Wildwood DMV office a couple of months ago I was only asked for my NY license...I had my passport, but was not asked for it.

To get Florida plates you need insurance issued in Florida - with the insurance you get the plates.

To get Florida insurance you need a Florida Driver's License - if you don't have a Fla DL they will issue you insurance with the proviso that you get one within 90 days or you are canceled.

Went thru this process in January.
