If you have a Garmin model that has Junction View the large, full screen file is also available for download. Here is the link for the larger JV file.

Please note that the downloads do take some time as a lot of people are doing their updates.

Thank you So So much for posting this I just bought my Nuvi 50LM in the past 2 months, when I registered it was already up to date, and so
I had not done one yet, and was afraid I would miss my first update, and would be disqualifed from more. You are a life saver! (I am now signed up for the LM desktop updates.)

FYI: This is the fastest opening ,and linking Garmin yet just one or 2 seconds, and No Recalculating message for those interested in purchasing a new one, Amazon was least expensive 2 months ago.

New discs for your in-dash GPS and 100% mark-up for the dealer. My Audi GPS is the same. Garmin now offers Lifetime updates for a slightly higher fee. $89.95

I have garmin Nuvi that I bought a year ago and have updated once. It has a lifetime maps with it but when I went to update it said there wasn't enough room. Then when I went to smaller data I could get the Eastern states but not into Canada so is there a way to get Ontario and the states down to Florida? If I add the eastern states will I lose the map with Canada? Surely I don't need a new GPS after a year!!! What is a micro SD card and would it hold enough for a few more updates? Any help is appreciated.

I got the update today. Took awhile to download. Yes, it has a little bit of south of 466A, just a sketchy outline really.

Took me a little while to find it, but here you go, the list is towards the bottom of the page, to find your models sd card, and the maximum memory size.

If your Garmin GPS can hold a plug-in memory card (SD or micro SD), then you can load the remainder of the maps on it, as if they were all connected. I will answer briefly, since I don't feel comfortable trying to be an instructor. I was in your position last year, and had never installed an SD (secure digital) card into the slot in the NUVI. I e-mailed Garmin tech support, and was given a detailed, but complicated, procedure to complete the download. Essentially, I had to download the entire update to my computer first, then run a map installer utility which can be directed to place the additional map parts onto the card. I have just done this again for the latest release, and I think I got it right. I will look for the old e-mail, and maybe I can forward it to you.

A side benefit to all this is that I also installed the Garmin Base Camp application on my computer, which should allow me to do trip planning ahead of time. However, I have not had the time to learn the software.

Thanks Buzzy. I have the new map downloaded on the computer so if you find the email for the install that would be great. PM me if you need my email or post it if you are OK with that. It would be great to have it so that I can get the upgrade to my GPS. I was going to look for the micro SD today later as I would like the new map before I head back to TV in a few weeks.

If you are purchasing a new Garmin Nuvi GPS, be sure to select a model that includes the ‘LM’ designation which stands for lifetime map updates. Fairly important for TV which is constantly expanding.

The LM feature can be added to older models.

I bought lifetime updates (four times a year) for $90 on Amazon. It's the way to go. Come to think of it, if your unit is that old you probably could buy a new GPS for just a little over the lifetime update amount and it'll come with a lifetime update. Seriously, give it consideration.

The current full coverage map file is about 1.7 gig bytes in size and they are getting larger with every update. This covers all North America. Also if your unit supported Junction View the file can be either 775 meg for full screen or about 460 meg for half screen.

Memory cards are very cheap today and I would add at least a 4 gig card. The latest firmware updates on many of the Garmin models will automatically store the files on the SD or micro SD card if not enough space is available in the core memory. Now to be safe you should check and see if your firmware is up to date and then do the map update.

A comment about Junction View. This is a feature that Garmin has added to the GPS that will show an almost real life picture of upcoming interstate exits and it will show you what lane to be in for your route of travel. The difference in the two screen sizes is that the full screen pops up on the display about .8 of a mile before the intersection and stays on for only about .2 of a mile or a few seconds depending on the speed of travel. The half screen version appears until you pass the intersection and only takes up half of the screen so you can still see your route. I have tried both and will be sticking with the half screen version.

Try a Google search on GPS update for the make and model of vehicle and see what you can come up with.

My Honda motorcycle with built in GPS made by Garmin uses an SF card which is replaceable with a new card. Right now the cost is $95.
