Remember Year 2000? People in my area (rural) were burying money and food in their back yards. They knew the city folks people would be moving north, raping and pillaging the farm people.

Hope this is just one more false alarm. Scary topic. Oh well, we've got four more years in Paradise.

Yikes!!! That Doomsday show WAS scary stuff.
The History Channel had several shows on that subject yesterday.
I tivoed em all and we watched some of em last night.
Then I had to do a little research on the subject this morning.

My conclusion is that we need to discount this house more (in NC) to hurry up and sell it,
so we can spend our remaining time in TV,,, just in case....
We are scheduling an Open House for Sunday... with the new price.

Here's the link to buy some of the Decoding The Past episodes in case anyone wants it.
The Doomsday 2012 one is not available yet, guess it's too new.
I watched the Mayan one also tho and it was very interesting...

You all know by now probably that I love looking for numbers in movies, books, TV shows, ads, and the like and having been doing so since the person behind me on around March 12, 1995 at the Petaluma Theater (CA) asked someone "Did you see that?" when the film Outbreak showed a 611-614 or so sequence.

But, unless, the Mayans had some knowledge about the movements of the planets and the like-- probably from outside sources-- cannot see how they would know how 12/12/2012 could mean anything?

I remember all those books about aliens visiting various ancient civilizations and the evidence for this. Maybe, there is something to that??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_astronaut_theory

The Mayans were a magnificent civilization as far as knowledge of the planets was concerned as well as architecture but my skeptical mind is having a lot of trouble making that leap of faith that without some kind of extraterrestial help in the form of a miracle and/or aliens cannot see how they could discover the date of the end of the world.

Guess I will have to see that DVD at some point and judge for myself though.

:yikes: OK, well that show did scare the bejebbies out of me! Went online and found this
is anyone's interested. And it gives you a whole bunch of other links.

I started to read through some of this but it was really getting to me so I just went to bed and hid under the covers. That might help in the future. The Villages Florida

The old "head under the covers" routine. Anyway, I'll be here if you need me. Or in my newly constructed "hole in the ground". The Villages Florida

Tal, I have to tell you, I'm really not rooting for the Mayans and their predictions at this point.

The Mayans still seem to be around. Had to Google them to find this out.

Tal,
I totally agree with you about the extraterrestrial help.
That's the only way I can mentally accept some of these historical feats.
Like the figures you can only see from an aircraft
.
And these Mayans didn't have telescopes to look at the Milky Way.
Naked eye only.... How could they do that... And look into the sun...
Shoot, I feel lucky just to be able to tell the direction from the sun.
How could they know the sun would be in the center of the Milky Way
and the planets would align just so, thousands of years in advance!!!

Gives me a headache just thinking about it!!! :yikes:

Fun topic but let's remember that the current calendar is just that - current. It was started after the fact (in 1582) and predated to a point in time (arrival of Jesus Christ). So 12/12/12 is just another point in time based on the Gregorian view of things. The real date is probably something like 12/12/4,506,004,089

Me too Nonie, watched it last night, I DVR'd it, couldn't get through the whole thing, too confusing and too scary. Switched over to a saved "Matlock" that's my speed. Put me to sleep as usual. What I don't know, won't hurt me!! My favorite saying..... :yikes:

Good article Tal. I hope and suspect it's correct. I still question if the planetary alignment would cause any shift of the polar axis. If so, how would earth be affected?
