If I ever get flu, I'll think abt getting a flu shot. I grew up faking a cold to skip school bc I almost never got one. Thankful for natural immunity, the shot seems more of a threat than what it's sposed to prevent.

I don't know anybody who has had the flu recently. I work with people from all over the country and haven't heard anything from anybody. I personally have never had a flu shot in my life.

If you have a fever with all this...it's a strain of the flu. Flu, is NOT stomach stuff with throwing up. That's called something else. I was just wondering what this "new" thing is like that's going around so if I begin to have symptoms I'll know to take care of it correctly.

In NY my wife got a bad head cold with sore throat but no fever thank God. I got the flu shot on Sunday for the first time in my life just to be on the safe side. Had a hard time finding a place that had flu shots in stock.

Got our shots in October. No one here with flu. It does take a little while (couple of weeks) for the shot to take effect. So I find it interesting folks run out to get the shot when the season hits it peak.

I don't want to be impolite, but it's important to correct the info here. The flu shot is attenuated virus and cannot give you the flu. It is not more of a "threat" than getting the flu, especially in the very young, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.

You are right of course.

We three had the flu shots and we feel secure we are protected against that strain. There are all kinds of heavy colds and other bad stuff that can mimic influenza.

I will tell you in June whether we got sick.

Right now, thank heavens, we three are fine.

Default Flu shots

There are so many reports from the medical community about getting the flu shot this year. I find it interesting that so many people ignor the facts that the shot reduces the severity if you should get the bug, reduces the chance that you will pass the bug to someone else, and that the youngest and oldest of our population are more at risk. Here in the Villages, if you are on Medicare, the shot is free at one of the many clinics that are held in the fall. So, unless there is a medical reason for an individual, we should all plan to get the shot, so that we stay a healthy community. I just recently was sick and I believe it was a mild form of the flu. It took a good week for me to really function, and I still have that tickley cough that keeps you up at night.

While in NY I ended up with a nasty case of flu which caused me to be in a hospital for three days. This was the first time I ever stayed overnight in a hospital. I was released on New Years Eve. My throat is still not right. Docs told me not to talk for 72 hours. Impossible.

Default flu

I was unlucky to get the 'winter vomiting virus' this Christmas!! It is also called Norovirus. Awful, truly awful. Husbad and sons both got a mild form of flu.
I spoke to my doctor about flu jabs last year, as I get an 'invite' in the post every year, inviting me for a flu jab. I never have it. I asked my doc if she would have the jab, and she said no way would she or her kids have this or any flu jab!!
Maybe we are lucky, or young and strong enough to fight off most of the nasty bugs.
Keep well folks!
