I'm online quite a bit. Which is very hypocritical considering just a couple of years ago I had a low opinion of people who were on facebook, twitter or texted all day long. For crying out loud, go outside and play.

I think we all take ourselves too seriously. The ubiquity of social media makes it all too easy to broadcast. I need to work on biting my lip too.

Gracie, you've always been the voice of reason on TOTV. Yes, you defend TV....but nothing wrong with that. As far as the boil water thread, I didn't see it, so can't comment on that.

However....one thing that has really bothered me for probably the last 6/8 months....TOTV is changing drastically. (So is the Villages Facebook page). I believe this change is due to all of the new folks that have moved here. TV has gotten way too big!!! It's not a "big city" atmosphere yet....but heading that way. Folks are retiring way earlier than years ago and moving here at a much younger age. The generation gap is very relevant and growing larger.

A friend of mine from Wisconsin came here recently for the lifestyle visit. She and her husband are in their mid 60's. They loved it here, but won't be moving here as they had planned. Here are a few reasons. The STD story. I know it's a bunch of hooey....but they had the actual report...and it was impossible for me to repute. She asked someone here for a good place to get her hair cut. The reply was ......" Go to .......,and ask her for the just F........d look" It's what all the ladies here wear. She went shopping while her husband sat on a bench outside.....four 50/60 yr old gals approached him and "while your waiting for your wife, my friend here gives a great ........job, and cheap".

Well, my friend went back to Wisconsin and now feels that TV is the sex capital of the world. That's what she's telling everyone. The only way I can legitimately defend it is telling anyone that asks that I've NEVER seen anything like this, but with 120,000 people, I'm sure things like this happen. I'm not a night person and I don't have a clue what goes on late into the night.

I guess all I'm saying Grace, is that things are changing fast and you will have a harder and harder time defending this huge community. I'm done with defending TV.

Graciegirl - You offer a gracious apology by a gracious lady. Hopefully the OP will be able to accept it with the same amount of grace and offer their apology for their part in the repartee.

Besides that, I am one who can confidently embrace that old line we hear from kindergartners, "You are not the boss of me."

I have seen a few trolls on here over the years. But more often I have seen new posters who must feel eviscerated after sincerely having posted something that might not be what others want to hear or acknowledge about TV. -- When I see this happen, I cringe.

But now, here you are, seeing it, too. That is good. Do not forget that you have a fine wit that is so much fun to see, and you can be quite helpful, too. That is the Gracie who adds so much to this forum.

But as far as that other behavior goes, and as much as I do not believe in written punishments, and never, ever assigned one, I must do so now.....

Please write the following sentence 5 times. Yes. Just 5 times. You do not need to write it 100 times. You are smart and can catch on fast when you want to.

Please write: I will try really, really hard to stop frisking posters at the door.

(And now, even I am debating whether to hit send or not. But I think I will. I must leave now to have my roots done. I hope when I look back, I will find a smile.......and maybe even a completed assignment.)
Boomer,

I have never met either you or Gracie but, both of you have shown the right amount of wisdom and humor to deserve the respect of this forum. Gracie's courageous apology and your witty response were both spot on.

I love TOTV and benefit daily from it. Thanks to you both!

Is this a fan club, or what??

Her apology was transparent and sincere. There's no need to pander.

She does have a fan club and rightly so plus I just have to catch up on her number of posts.

This is an amazing place to live. I'm very surprised that folks who have reached an age to live here are so shocked, appalled, etc. when someone says something outside of their comfort zone and beliefs. Each one of us is unique. I find both comments funny. The first one about the hair cut is "right on" given the unending posts here asking where to find a good haircut/hairdresser. To expect every stranger you meet to be happy and pleasant is unrealistic. To let what those people say change how you feel about living here is foolish.

The original post made me go visit the site and sign up to receive notices......the rest just made me tired.
But kudos to you for being apologetic. Taking the higher road is never easy, but usually the right direction.

Hmmm. I seriously doubt many move here believing TV is perfect...that all those nasty things that occur in all those other places in the world simply never occur here. Come on.

Do places change as they grow? Sure. Does that mean they're doomed and indefensible? I don't think so.

GG,

Some seemingly disparate thoughts, yet I think related: As others have already mentioned on this post, your apology, whether really needed or not (I did not read the “boiled” post) was a classy thing to have done.

My first apartment in college had a concrete floor, an old clothes-wash basin for a sink and a toilet and shower sitting out in the middle of a room with the center piece being one of the old octopus stoves. It was far from glamorous but it was part of my first step into adulthood and my future. I loved it. TV is a few steps above that beginning point.

Now, is TV perfect? Nope, in fact nothing is perfect except for heaven itself, but since I am still on this side of there, TV is good enough for me. If 1/10 of 1% are unhappy that’s 120 people who live here who are not pleased with what is offered and lived out every day in this remarkable town. Certainly each of us could eventually encounter one of those. Whenever I run into an unhappy person, I simply wish them a happy rest of the day and I move on. They will not dampen my “TV spirit”.

There have been a number of posts in this string from some of the most respected posters on TOTV and I agree with what each has said about your reputation and contribution to this site. I would like to think that the original “boiled” poster would read your string and respond. That would tell us all a lot about that person’s character and maturity.

GG, keep up the good work. See you in another post.

I fail to see how passion clouds the way to extending the benefit of the doubt and common courtesy towards others. It's fairly easy not to comment on a post as it is to add your two cents, if you don't agree. Especially when it's a small issue like the frequency of email alerts.

GG, I was following the water boil post as it was happening, and just re-read it. The original question was fine, the premise appeared doubtful.
To reiterate, your response was:

"I am on the list to receive these notices and to say they are frequent or daily is a gross exaggeration.

I believe that this is another exaggerating negative post. I challenge you to send us the daily links you have received this week, OP.

They only send them as a "boil water notice" when a line has been broken and they give the vicinity and street of the break. "

Were you vigorously defending TV---of course, you always do
Was it rude---I don't think so
Is it appropriate to request proof when a statement seems unlikely to be true?--yes, just wait for the presidential debates!
Were the two subsequent request for proof aggressive?--maybe a little, but the OP wasn't responding to the question (maybe she's a politician)
Does your apology show grace, charm, and maturity?---ABSOLUTELY!!

Now, let's look at the immediate response to your post from the OP:

"I receive these notices DAILY- I cannot speak on the emails you receive GRACIEGIRL I can only state on the emails I am receiving. Honestly I do not appreciate your comment indirectly calling me a liar - BEWARE The internet bully is in full force tonight!!!!!! It's SAD that someone can't come onto this site and ask a question without receiving a negative comment from GRACIEGIRL!!! So sick of the nonsense!!! And I am sure the Graciegirl Posy will attack me now too!! "

All I can say here is Res ipsa loquitur
(and that unless you have your own species of flower named after you, the OP probably meant posse)
It looks to me that whole tone of the OP's statement appears that she was already "loaded for bear" or extremely over-defensive

So now that you have apologized for your small role, I challenge the OP to man (?woman) up and do the same. And GG---keep those posts coming.
