Default It's about time!

This is a longstanding rule on the autobahn which is why it is so safe.

Will it become illegal to drive slow in the fast lane? In Florida it might | Motoramic - Yahoo! Autos

It's a law in Michigan too, but nobody pays much attention to it! There's no enforcement.

In Ontario, it is illegal to text, or to talk on a hand-held cell phone. Seems sensible to me.

But herein lies the problem....what is "slow"? Is driving the speed limit slow?

Cool

in general terms, If you aren't passing anyone, you need to be in the farthest RIGHT lane.

The autobahn isn't as safe as it once was, as more drivers are staying in the center lane on three lane autobahns, when not passing another vehicle. However, normally the left lane is still open for 100+ MPH. With the exception of trucks, most folks drive between 80 & 100 MPH on the autobahn.

You gotta love the German autobahn!

If you're in the left hand lane, no matter what speed you're going, if someone comes up behind you who is going faster, then you should simply move over and let them pass. It's common courtesy and promotes a safer roadway.

I don't know how many times I've seen a "train" on the highway. One guy going whatever speed he wants and ten cars behind him wanting to go faster. This is the kind of thing that cause road rage.

But it won't be illegal to drive the speed limit in the left lane. Although I agree you should not be in the left lane on a highway if you're going the speed limit or slower, it's perfectly OK to be in the left lane on Morse or Buena Vista traveling the speed limit.

"The bill proposes that if you drive 10 mph or more below the posted speed limit, while dawdling in the left hand lane, the penalty would be a $60 fine. The law would be in effect for any road with two or more lanes."

I'm glad that is cleared up. TYVM

Could not agree more.

I am a fast driver BUT if someone is coming up on me - over I go !

You sound like a thoughtful and courteous driver, ugotme.

In my opinion the proposed fine of $60 is ridiculously low, merely the price of a tank of gas. It should be $500 for the first offense and go up from there as well as double if the road hogs are gabbing on their cells phones while loafing along in the passing (left) lane!

text law just passed in Florida, secondary offense means you must be stopped for something else. Fine for texting (i think) was $30, real deterrant huh?

I suspect like many of the safe driving laws LOE will move slowly at first, perhaps with warnings and as time passes will get more aggressive.

I for one agree with the law;albeit i wonder if it will increase the number of drivers who will move continually from one lane to another

It's illegal in NY too but doesn't seem to be much of a deterrent. To bad it isn't enforced more vigorously.
As far as the deadheads in the left lane, there are few things more frustrating than drivers cruising along in the left lane, completely oblivious to train of cars behind them. Even the drivers passing them on the right giving them the #1 sign doesn't phase them. Lock 'em up!
