Not only common sense but some who are malicious.
A driver in front of me in the left lane held his position exactly beside a car in the left lane for over 10 miles until 100 or so cars were behind them in both lanes.

Then the bad driver drove ahead, fast, letting the flow loosen, then he settled in the left lane again, exactly beside a slow driver. I had never seen anything like it, and suspect it was intentional, juvenile behavior.

BTW, that was on 75, on which for 6 years I had commuted 2 hours a day.

That's when you pick up the cell phone and call the police. Truck drivers used to do that on I96 in West MI till people started calling them in. It was a work commute between the Lake MI shore and Grand Rapids, and a very busy route.

Imagine how, less stressful and safer highway driving would be, if everyone put 7 car lengths between them and stayed at the speed limit.
Kind of like, how they were designed to be driven.

That is impossible to do around cities, especially at rush hour. Rather, imagine if the road builders had the knowledge back in the '50s as to how many cars would be on the road today, and built enough roadway to accommodate them.

In many cities that are landlocked by mountains, rivers, oceans, even if the DOTs knew, they still would be hampered by not enough space to build roads. Just be respectful of other motorists, and don't do anything stupid!

Pittsburgh is a good example of this, BTW. Foothills on one side, rivers on three sides. Tunnels through hills that were built in the '50s (you know what I mean, you literals!) and are only two lanes each way. An hour to go six miles from downtown to Edgewood between the hours of four and six.

They should put up signs on those roads in the villages. It might help.
