It is as advertised. Myoil company says "It is the real deal" Freeze Alarm.com. It will call 3 phone numbers after the tempeture drops below 50 degrees or what ever you set it for. You can even call from Florida and the machine willl tell you how cold it is at your northern home. Free free to PM me if you need any further info

When I left the Villages, I set the A/C temp @ 82 degrees. Maybe The Haackster should turn on the heat now. We got snow on LI. Maybe 2-3 inches.

Tom - Thanks for the specifics on the freeze alarm. I need to look into one of those, even though we're not away for such a long period of time. We've got an automatic back-up generator here at the house in OH that will keep the furnace, etc. going as normal. But that won't help if something goes haywire with the furnace itself. We don't need to come back to a home with broken water pipes!

I think I paid $253 for the unit. Comes with everything needed (including batteries)

If the temp dips below the desired settings it will phone my neighbor, my sister in law and me in Florida. If nobody answers the phone, it will keep calling until someone does.

Some of the older houses up north have steam heat, whether it be oil or gas. In that case water is needed to supplement the water in the boiler some of which is lost thru the radiator valves during the heat cycle.

Default Hint

If you have a programable thermostat remember to change the batterys before you leave,I didn't,the batterys died and we almost had frozen pipes because the furnace shut down.
