With Sam on this one. I have the best and no one can fill his shoes. (Literally a size 13!) No, I really mean it. Vetman is my soulmate and if something should happen to him, I will live my life out doing things with friends. His love will be my only and last.

Well, errrr....arrrgh....clearing my throat for the umpteenth time while thinking how to answer this question.....

You are all talking to the Queen of "Would You Enter Into The State Of Holy Matrimony Again?????"

I was married 32 years, divorced, then reunited after one year. We did NOT remarry. Financially it was to our benefit so we chose to remain divorced but remain "married" in the sense of the word only. We have now been together 37 years albeit one. We consider ourselves married even though we are not.

If something happened to him, I would consider involving another man in my life...but think I'd have a hard time finding someone as faithful, devoted, considerate, patient, forgiving, and loving as him.

Maria has me now wondering about this new Florida amendment and I will be researching it.

Bright, The Amendment is called the Florida Marriage Protection Amendment. For some reason I can't open a pdf file at home but in essence it says that Florida law will only recognize the union of one man and one woman as a lawful union. You can google it "proposed Florida amendment" and pull it up.

I'm not sure how it would affect you. The purpose of it seems to be to prevent unions of same sex marriages.

I guess I'm a never say never person.................but I doubt it. I have a wonderful hubby of 37yrs, who is also my soul mate. I can't really imagine dating, let alone marrying again. I could be very happy with friends - both sistahs and guy friends. The older I get, the less stress I want.........

I heard a statistic once that single women and married men live the longest. It went on to say that the reason for this was less stress. Married men are better taken care of and single women only have to take care of themself.

Interesting.

This absolutely effects you and anyone else that is not "legally married"...whether they are same sex or not....

If you are Florida residents and this is passed then you could loose any benefits, legal rights, etc...even if you have a will. I recently went to a talk on this.
VOTE “NO” ON 2 !!!!!

Recent guest speakers, Donna Tara Lee and Joe Sanders from Fairness For All Families, discussed the importance of focusing our efforts to defeat the “Marriage Protection Amendment” which will appear on the November 2008 ballot.

The specific amendment reads: “Inasmuch as a marriage is the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife, no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized.”

The concern is that passage of such a vaguely worded amendment will lead to a ban of all recognition and benefits for unmarried couplebe they straight or gay/In states where similar legislation has been adopted the challenge to domestic partner benefits has already begun. This not only impacts many gay families, but also hundreds of thousands of straight couples who have chosen not to legally marry in order to protect their retirement/pension benefits.

So what can we do???

Our first step needs to be education. Visit the “Fairness” website (www.votenoflorida.org) to become familiar with the specifics of this issue, learn who is behind this amendment, and find a list of specific actions we can take as individuals and groups to help defeat the measure.

Secondly, we need to commit ourselves to having as many conversations as possible with those around us stressing the importance of defeating this amendment. We need to gather the support of family and friends of all those who, for whatever reason, live lovingly as life-partners.
And finally, above all else, we need to vote!!!! Our collective voice needs to be heard and this can only be accomplished when each individual steps forward on November 8th. Take yourself and all your friends to the polls on that day so we can put to rest this mean spirited amendment.

Hope this helps....you need to look into it!! :yikes:

I hope I never have to make this decision. Very happily married for many years and can not imagine finding anyone else to take his place. If the worst should happen I think TV will be a great place to be as there is so much there to keep me busy.

Exactly why I'm planning to reside in TV, for the friendships I've developed both with sistah's and brother's, (literally, too!). Couldn't think of a better place to spend my single years!!

BUC, now that is just the sweetest post! Your wife is a lucky woman to have a husband who recognizes her true value. I also pray that you never have to be apart.
