While I am not Catholic, Pope Francis seemed to be a breath of fresh air into that church.
The movie “Conclave” seems to be very apropos.

My mother was raised Catholic as she is of Irish descent but became Lutheran after falling in love with my German-American father. I do not really fall into any category of religious beliefs. I used to do a lot of church hopping in Reno, Nevada. A very charming black man had been chatting with me in front of the Philosophy building at the University of Nevada Reno about the meaning of life and such and invited me to meet some people with similar interests. I quickly told the first speaker that he was full of it as I soon realized they were with the Unification Church. I did need to severely curse them out when they kept harassing my parents over the phone. The charming black man was the head of the Unification Church for Northern Nevada. Mr. Jerome Childress. I had gone to various Catholic services around Reno, Nevada as well as Lutheran ones. And was kicked out of the Moonies for asking too many questions. They did try to lure me in with a promise of maybe getting to know a very attractive woman who was there in the house near the UNR Campus. Last edited by Taltarzac725; 04-21-2025 at 07:42 AM. |

Pope Francis was truly a man of God, may he rest in peace. I wish he could have implemented a few more changes but the conservative group is very strong.
Snarky comments are off base here. |

The pope is a very holy person. I have been at a gathering once where he appeared, I was in a field very far from him physically. We had been out all night waiting for him, in the rain and it was almost freezing weather. It was worth it as the power of his presence could be felt the way a strong wind blows in your face.
Interesting, Tal, in my case my father was Roman Catholic and my mother was Lutheran. As a Lutheran she could not marry outside of her faith so my father “converted”. This was not easy for him because as a school-aged child he always wanted to become a priest. It was worth it to him as he loved my mother to his very last day. But in our basement, by his workbench, there on a nail, was a rosary, always. I, myself, was confused, rebellious, believed in nothing. But there was this constantly nagging feeling, “Is there a God?” After years of searching I found the answer was yes. Then the next question was, what path should I follow, how can I get to know Him? Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam etc I was open to everything - all I wanted was to know the truth. It was the only thing that truly mattered to me. I’m not sure how but I was guided towards the Bible - all of it, old and new testaments. I’m still there. Last edited by Velvet; 04-21-2025 at 11:44 AM. |

Pope Francis was for the masses, and no matter his health he wanted to address Easter with those who he dedicated his life for all.
Sadly after just releasing from hospital, and in recovery, the selfless act of just a few words, and taking time for private audiences, may have been more than his body could handle. Hopefully the stroke, and CHF took him peacefully and quickly. |
