You can use your own modem. Any new modem that supports VLAN tagging will work. The Quantum modem is identical to a standard modem, they just have VLAN 201 tagged internally. The device that converts fiber to ethernet is a small black box, typically installed in the garage at point of entry.

I'm using a Netgear Orbi and have VLAN 201 tagged. No more Quantum modem! Made no sense to me to have one more device in the loop consuming power and an additional potential failure point.

I just looked up the Netgear Orbi and its a router not a modem. It does not have a fiber port.

No. The Comcast modem will not work with quantum fiber. Their service includes an optical modem, you will need your own router, or you can rent theirs

We have been using Quantum 200 maps service for a little over a year, here on the north side.
We have a TV going nearly 14 - 16 hrs per day. Most of the time, we also have a PC, a tablet and 2 cell phones (running wifi while in the house). We stream YouTubeTV and have not expany delays/buffering or connection issues. However, there is an issue with the "We" and "Oxygen" channels with buffering. Wife is addicted to L & O and Dateline reruns. Those 2 channels are the only 2 which experience buffering for some reason. Have NOT experienced issues with any other channel.
In shirt, don't pay for the additional speed unless you are into gaming.

The question that very few people know to ask is "what is my upload speed?". You'd be surprised at how little you get. So, your 200mbps is plenty fast for anything download related.

with fiber, you get the same speed up or down, its not like copper where you get 1G down and 40Mb up

you don't use a modem on a fiber network. The IP provides the box that takes the fiber and converts it to an ethernet port, then you use a RJ45 cable from this port to your router, you can use any router, but not all routers are the same. IMO, I wouldn't get a router that doesn't support 802.11ax, even the 802.11ac routers are old technology. I myself only use mesh network routers for better coverage, 1 router doesn't cover well at all

To stream 4K you only need 50 mbps. We currently have 100 mbps and have no trouble when streaming to 2 different devices.

Well, I changed my mind and went with the higher 940 MBPS. It was installed on Tuesday and it is fast. Tuesday night I looked at shows on the free Roku channel and it's not bad but not great.

The next day Wednesday I signed up on Hulu Live. It's very different from Cable to navigate the layout of what shows are where and witch ones are live but, I'm learning.

Both the Quantum Fiber and Streaming services are month to month. Cancel anytime.
