Must be a gender thing. Perhaps hate is too strong. Inflammatory. How do you like that word.

If people find facts inflammatory then maybe reality isn't for them.
My respect and admiration for the man is also based on FACT, and some personal experience.

Again what kind of person would entertain posting such garbage negativity on someones death ? What might be the purpose of that ?

In five years most of us will be onto another issue, this issue forgotten. If we are here at all.

You can't change peoples minds that have a set view and you can't get blood out of a turnip.

In ten years many of us will be totally forgotten, and the seniors in High School won't be learning anything about John McCain or much about President Trump either.

What I have seen on this forum recently is NOT simply an expression of "views" but more a look into some souls that seem to be black.

And your prediction could not be more in error. Your attitude on history is one of another fear planted FOR you. It is another made up fear

History will live forever...our leaders words will live forever. You cant say "whoopsie" and move on and rewrite what is true and factual. Actually in the era of videos and such, it is impossible to run from history.

Again, what I am speaking of is not one about views....it is something that in order to be so filled with such venom, must be part of you....must be you (that is a collective you, by the way). You do not just get up and begin to attack others, no matter the circumstances.

The lack of criticism for some of the posts yells loudly to me. Those who will criticize posters for misspelling Sumter or some other minor offense simply go silent, which we all know is not SILENT but a loud approval of those actions.

It is truely sad that we have come to this......mean spirited, spiteful actions are for children.......I recall the many who argued loudly with each other in congress for years, with never ever a personal attack and who could then put their arms around each other and pledge allegiance to our country.

We can wish all good things to the dictator killer IN Korea, we can wish well to the killer in the former soviet BUT we can't even allow a real honest American hero to rest in peace.

At first angry, now very sad

Yeah, throwing your disabled wife with 3 young kids to the curb is so admirable. He's such a man of character and integrity.
Would you rather I lie or tell the truth?

What's the purpose you ask? To inform and not be pulled on the bandwagon. Like I've said many times before. Hero? You bet. He lived in hell for years. Character? um sure
McCain was the first to admit what he did to his first wife was wrong. He also said one of his biggest regrets was signing the Vietnamese “confession”. So, yes, he’s made mistakes, some egregious, some pretty unforgivable by many standards, but he’s also shown great courage, integrity to his beliefs, and more honor than most politicians.

I think that most didn’t want you to lie but just to leave these comments for a different thread. Even the President has kept his negative thoughts and comments to himself (so far). This was and is a thread of condolences, sympathy, sorrow.

I know someone who's family life as a kid was crap because her father flew the coop with her, her sisters and their mother! This same person just last night was telling me what a fine man he must have been because all she had been hearing was how great a person he was and a hero to boot.

Glad you brought this up.

First, Senator McCain, never one for boasting has referred many time that his failed first marriage as "my greatest moral failure" and both his first and second family have had great relations over the years...

His first wife was hurt in an automobile accident and as it turns out he rehabbed from POW ALONGSIDE HER. The marriage was very difficult when he came back, but it lasted, I think, about 7 more years.

He had adopted the children of his first wife, and I never heard him boast about cheating, or ever bash his wife,

Divorce is rough, but this one, even though divorce, was done without the animosity or public humiliaion.

If that is your reason for demoting him from being a good man, I have been lectured (on this board) that divorce does not make a man a bad person. I never felt that way, but many use that little phrase to excuse public humiliation if a spouse, or public cheating.

You surely made the story melo dramatic, eggerated facts, etc, but as you as you told me....your lack of admiration is none of my business

Early in this thread. I said this. I believe this country grieves for John McCain.... But I do believe that even heroes fade from memory with time..... And history takes a while to shake out to see just what happened and how it influenced the world.

Sometimes it is hard to see the forces that are moving and changing the world at the time that the forces ARE moving and changing the world.

Politically, I liked a lot about Sen. McCain. Voted for him as President. However, as a person, he was a nasty, mean SOB. Even his good friend Sen. Graham said, "if he didn't cuss you out you weren't trying hard enough". Check out the things he said to his own wife and you'll understand. Report: McCain's Profane Tirade At His Wife | HuffPost It has been said if they rename the Senate Office Building after him, at least you won't have to change the initials.

This may be a good sign....this post.

For at least TWO YEARS, I have been told so loud and clear that MORALS DO NOT MATTER AT ALL IN PUBLIC OFFICE....that hookers, strippers and publicly embarrassing your wife is not to be used against you at all. Lying, i am told is to be ignored as well.

SO....your return to moral conduct would be very welcome !

Had some kid come walking in to talk to me so mad at himself he wanted to die (happened too many times) because he thought his daddy left because of something he had done. Yeah, I'd think his dad was a POS.

Had she been your daughter and her husband (your son in law) threw her to the curb I'm sure I'd be hearing what a classy guy he was years down the road from you.

Sorry. I spent over 10 years working with kids who's mother, father or both split on them. I've seen up close and way too many times what happens.

Sorry. Apologizing, regretting your actions or feeling bad about splitting from your 3 kids and severely handicapped wife for another fresher one, 20 years newer... well, it doesn't put the moral, character or integrity card back in your pocket to play again.
Hero yes. Upstanding character? Maybe yours but not in my book.

Later. I'm out.
Amazing, isn't it...how for. Couple years ON THIS FORUM, we were told emphatically how moral conduct meant NOTHING.

Should we understand the sudden interest in Sen McCain and his foibles, all of which he is sorry for and admitted, is just so damn important.

I suspect, all this "holiness" will go away...seems to be floating moral authority.
