[QUOTE=Travelingal702;1862907]I'm sure there are many military retirees/veterans who remember Jane Fonda of the 70's and the irreparable harm she did, as HANOI JANE.

Can't we just learn to forgive and forget?

If Hanoi Jane was so sorry, it did not show in her interviews. She was sorry that she is despised, yes. It did not stop her from continuing to make millions in Hollywood. She is nothing more than an ignorant and spoiled elitist that grew up in Hollywood, raised by rich parents in make believe land. She has never said that she is ashamed of what she did. She simply made excuses for her behavior and said that no one understood her intentions. She was sorry that everyone was too ignorant to understand her.

Have despised her since that time. She is unrepentant and could care less about the harm she did to those soldiers due her fantasy believe that they were the enemy. They were tortured due to her actions. She is the epitome of a despicable, spoiled Hollywood brat. She should be put in a cage and whipped daily and starved like those guys were.

I cannot share your opinion as I lost too many friends there. She is a Traitor pure and simple.

How can you just look over what she did to those men as "if any". I doubt you say something that stupid if you had been there.

She was dead wrong and she caused a lot of harm to those particular soldiers and to the morale of many other soldiers. I didn't believe in the war either but that doesn't excuse someone doing what she did.

How can you actually, in all good conscience, say what you said. That is pathetically inconsiderate. A lot of my friends went over there and were wounded or killed. They didn't have a deferment like you. You are despicable.

“It happened on my last day in Hanoi…The translator told me that the soldiers wanted to sing me a song… The soldiers asked me to sing for them in return…I memorized a song called Day Ma Di, written by anti-war South Vietnamese students. I knew I was slaughtering it, but everyone seemed delighted that I was making the attempt. I finished. Everyone was laughing and clapping, including me… someone (I don’t remember who) led me towards the gun, and I sat down, still laughing, still applauding. It all had nothing to do with where I was sitting. I hardly even thought about where I was sitting. The cameras flashed…

It is possible that it was a set up, that the Vietnamese had it all planned. I will never know. But if they did I can’t blame them. The buck stops here. If I was used, I allowed it to happen. It was my mistake and I have paid and continue to pay a heavy price for it… I have apologized numerous times for any pain I may have caused servicemen and their families because of this photograph. It was never my intention to cause harm.”

No.

The north agreed.
The south and the usa refused to allow the election to take place because they feared a communist victory.
Instead of withdrawing troops eisenhower and kennedy sent in thousands of them
so if the usa had adhered to the geneva accords
1 an election would have reunified the 2 vietnams as 1 country with a communist government as it does to this day
2. 58,209 american servicemen would not have died
3. Millions of non combatants who became collateral damage would have survived
currently communist vietnam is an american vacation spot, business partner and military ally of the usa. They join in war games with the usa and our allies to reign in the military expansion of communist china.
Lay the blame not on lbj but rather and primarily upon eisenhower and then kennedy
veritas.

Johnson ramped up military involvement. I agree Eisenhower and Kennedy Started our involvement and elevated slightly, Johnson elevated it to several thousands.

Barbarella WAS good! I try not to care about what actors do with their off-screen life. Take for example, Mel Gibson - I could care less if he gets drunk and disorderly - he is/was a GREAT actor and a pretty good director.

The United States was wrong, and committed crimes against the people and especially children of Vietnam.
And now we trade with them. They are not trying to affect our elections like other countries. They don't have intercontinental missiles pointed at the US, like North Korea.

She was a very good looking woman with a great body but as a person she is a disgusting disgraceful traitor who should have been punished severely.

The very day she posed on a tank, I was with a pal of mine who died later that day from a sniper bullet to the head after much suffering.

Yet, as you say, the complete damage being done at present makes it look like a parlor game. She you can forget.....this will remain for many years to come.

Well, I've just discovered that she is the spokesperson for GREENPEACE, an organization to which I've contributed over the years.

I've just mailed a letter requesting they remove my name from their mailing list, as I will no longer be a contributor to an organization that has a traitor as their spokesperson.

Just putting in my two cents and FYI for those interested.
How foolish can anyone be. Some may have seen her as a traitor at the time but history sees her as a hero for speaking out against an unjustified war and saving thousands of lives of those who didn't have to go there because protests contributed to the ending of that horrible, unnecessary war. I'm pleased to acknowledge that I had the pleasure of attempting to throw rotten tomatoes at Lyndon Johnson's car on one occasion during that war.
