These guys were Astronauts.

The recent female "Astronauts", were more like Drone "pilots" ... or maybe even "flight attendants".
Passengers seems to fit.

If they are astronauts then I am a race car driver because I went 80mph on the turnpike!

What was the "carbon footprint" for this "mission"/joyride?

OK ..... say what you want, but IMHO, she and the others just went for a ride. An expensive one for sure, but nonetheless, a publicity venture for the "all female" crew. I wonder when the "all trans" crew goes up. Just a stunt for attention.
And to label them "heroes"? Absolutely not, as a "hero" is one who immediately and without thought, puts himself/herself in extreme bodily danger to save the life of another.

sorry - not all over the place. as usual much of the "media" gave it passing interest and barely mentioned that SPACEX was responsible for the mission. wonder why?

You are focused on the media lites on this trip. How about noting that one or two had advanced degrees in scientific domain, and one had experience at NASA. See we focus or the media focuses on the influencers, versus people who actually study and desire to do work in this domain. Say their names Aisha Bowe and Amanda Nguyen.

I think space tourism is great. Great experience for participants, and influx of money into the industry. I don’t know what they paid for their ride, but I’m sure it was in the millions.

They aren’t hero’s that’s ridiculous. And nobody is flying the thing, it’s a parabolic flight. But still experiencing several Gs of acceleration is not trivial. A few more safety briefings needed than other thrill rides.

Responses were interesting, some seem jealous, envious, etc. Not everyone is the same thank goodness. Some feel a sense of accomplishment after a trip to Walmart.

Your confirmation bias is showing.

Bringing back the two stranded astronauts *was* all over the news. I don't watch the news yet I heard about it for days prior to the flight. I was sitting at a restaurant and heard cheers around the place as the capsule splashed down. If you didn't see it you weren't paying attention.

SpaceX was also all over the news for it, including the false claim that it was a rescue mission. A rescue mission would have brought them back sooner, in less than 286 days. It was reported in an article I can no longer find that the February return date was identified as far back as August 2024. February became March due to some problems at SpaceX but ultimately they came back as (re-)scheduled.

Confirmation bias is real; I can find any number of articles that say so.

The things that people will argue and get upset about these days is truly amusing.
