Regarding the Samsung Proclaim, when you are in range of wifi, does the phone use the wifi or the cell tower?

You can set it for picking up wifi when availalble, or turn it off completely. My phone will use my wifi when at home and 3g when wifi not available.

I ended up going with AT&T Go Phone. We got a new flip phone for $39.99, a At&T Z221. The phone is nicer than the Samsung phone I had with Verizon and it's very easy to use.

It's 10 cents a minute, I can buy a $25 card (250 minutes) for 3 months or pay $100 for a year for a 1000 minutes. I was paying $36 a month with tax to Verizon and my last bill I used it a whole 5 minutes.

I got my phone in two days and I'm already using it. I couldn't transfer my old number because the area code was from Maryland, but they gave me a real good telephone number.

Default Check out Tracfone!

I use Tracfone—no monthly charge and minutes roll over as long as I don’t let the service time run out. Cost of minutes varies depending on the current promotion. I have a phone that includes TRIPLE minutes, meaning I pay for one and get three. I just signed up for the most recent promo—400 minutes plus bonus of 250 minutes, including one year of service, for $100 plus about $8 tax. The 400 tripled to 1,200 plus the bonus means 1,450 minutes for a cost of just under $.07/minute. Also includes international calling at the same usage cost, that is, one minute charge for one minute of call time.

Dividing these figures out, the cost of service per month is about $9/month ($108 divided by 12). I have a land line, so I use the cell phone when traveling and locally only when needed rather than for routine calling.

Service works perfectly! I bought my brand new phone (LG 800) sealed in original Tracfone packaging for $23 including free shipping on ebay—touch screen unit that includes texting (which I don’t do) and camera (which I don’t use). See Brand New LG800g with Triple Minutes for Life Tracfone 616960023739 | eBay. Absolutely reliable seller.

I will not shop Walmart under any circumstances unless desperate for something I need that I cannot find anywhere else. A whole other discussion thread….
