Well, I was stationed in Va.Beach and had just moved into a place off base and would sit out on the steps and drink a beer after work and just be mellow 8). I used to see her walk her little poodle every evening and she would always glare at me if I looked at her. Finally i met her younger brother and he invited me to go see a high school football game with a group of them and guess who was there? Yep the future Mrs HankD. That was in October and she was 19 and I was 21, and in December on New Years Eve we skipped across the state line into Elizabeth City, North Carolina and eloped. They said it wouldn't last but I guess maybe "they" miscalculated cause it will be 39 years this New Years Eve and :hot: I just hope that the staute of limitations on the Mann Act is long past 1rnfl 1rnfl 1rnfl

My car was laid up in the shop and I needed a ride to a PWP (Parents Without Partners) discussion group. They would do anything to get men involved, so they convinced HB to pick me up at my cousin's house; she knew my cousin, which helped, and her house was a couple of blocks from each of our respective apartments. Even so, I didn't realize that HB arrived with a weapon (an umbrella with a really sharp point!) just in case I....

As they say, the rest is history!

Ok...I am kidding...well partially! I knew S loved a good party! If there was food and drink I knew S would show up! Invited or not....

We both worked in the senior services industry in upstate NY. I knew I wanted to really meet S. I decided that I would throw a party for all of the people in the industry...I am sure there was a reason....I made one up....but really who needs a reason for a party...let's call it "Networking".

So the invites went out...and the people showed up....S was one of the first ones to arrive. We spent the evening talking(even though I should have been hosting the party)....S had no clue in my interest at all!! Had to almost take a bat to the head! HELLO in there!!

After several emails and phone calls later I was finally asked on a date. The best steak house in town...the best bottle of wine (or 2) and wonderful conversation!! What an impression....I was treated like royalty!! what more could I ask for...

2 months later we came for our first visit to TV's together....the villa had been bought 3 months prior. I fell in love with the house, with our life, with every part of the person S is....Who wouldn't fall completely in love while in TV's!!!

The rest, as you all say, is history....and still making more history.....

thanks for sharing and asking about me too!! ;D
Are you both still working in the "senior services industry"? What exactly is that?

I was transferred from Tampa to Atlanta in 1971. Joe & I worked for the same company and he had been at my office doing my job temporarily when I was hired. Tampa was not nearly as big as it is now. He had long hair and I was used to the short AF cuts that McDill guys had. I knew I was not interested in him. Before I got to Atlanta, he said his roommate's girlfriend, Caroline, was looking for a roommate. Her last roommate had married another roommate of theirs. She was the second roommate of Caroline's to marry one of her boyfriend's roommates. I was the third 4 1/2 months later.

Caroline did marry - just not to my husband's ex-roommate. After marrying off three roommates each to the other's roommate (in a 2 year period), they went their separate ways. Caroline was everyone's bridesmaid - I thought of her when I saw the movie about the girl with all the bridemaid dresses - I think it was "21 Dresses".

Met my wife in church......it was a real active, very contemporary music, youthful, non denominational church.

There were way more teenage girls there then guys, so I was kinda like "Fresh meat" so to speak.
This was 30 years ago....much better looking then. ;D

Many of the girls seemed to make a bit of a fuss over my visiting, inviting me to other events, etc........ She was the only one who didn't seem to care at all about me...... :dontknow:

Next week is our 29th anniversary.
