Brooklyn Bagels is the only place that I get bagels. The treated water and recipe make a huge difference. I tried the Einstein bagels at Publix because they were so good at the Einstein stores around Chicago. What a disappointment. BTW, Dunkin Doughnuts bagels are OK in a pinch.

We like Brooklyn Bagels on 441, but the last couple of times they have been little undercooked and we like ours to be a nice toasty brown. I try to look and pick out the ones that look more done, but the angle isn't great from the counter area.

I agree the best place to find NY/ Long Island Bagels your gonna find around here are from Brooklyn Bagels on 441. And it all comes down to the water. You will notice when you walk in there they have a major water filtration system. It looks like a oversized / sediment and reverse osmosis system and that makes all the difference .
Water makes all the difference in the world the way your food /coffee/ bagels taste. Most places I go to they don’t use any filtration. A good way to tell if a restaurant is purifying their water is to order a glass of water and see if it tastes good. Most of the time you can smell and taste chlorine. Also I have heard some places have their water sent here from NY ( not sure if it’s true) and that’s why their food tastes so good. Clean purified water equals great tasting food and drink! |

“ THE WATER By using our proprietary water treatment system, known as “Brooklyn Water Works,” Brooklyn Water Bagel® can successfully replicate the natural composition of the water that flows through the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York into the homes of Brooklyn residents. This replication is accomplished by filtering local water down to its purest, most natural state, and then adding unique elements found only in our water. Our advanced technology allows us to transform any source of tap water in the world into clean, safe drinking water, which is used in every recipe, beverage, ice cube, and kettle used to boil our bagels.” So, in effect, it’s simply a marketing tool. |

I agree the closest thing to New York bagels locally is Brooklyn Bagel with Panera as a runner up. If you want the real deal do as I do and order Ess-a-Bagels from Goldbelly.com. $60 for 24 but close your eyes and you are back in NY. This site sells iconic food from all over the country so if you are craving something from home you can't find in Florida check here. I have also ordered Junior's cheesecake from them.

Brooklyn Bagel is amazing.... If I am in the mood but don't want to drive over there I check fresh market on 441. They make water bagels that are pretty good.

Well I thank everyone for their bagel input and technical knowledge.
Based upon postings we did the drive (30 min from Fenney) to Brooklyn Bagel. Bought 2 sandwiches and a fresh dozen to go. Quite good and much thanks. Wished I had read the cream cheese lox and spare bagel recommendation. There was plenty of filling to make two really great sandwiches. Thanks FRED |
