There is a lesson that has to be learned the hard way in regard to communications. You could say something and inflect tone, a smile, a growl, a sneer, a laugh and the meaning can change. And sometimes very dramatically. However when you write something down on paper (or on a forum) the meaning you have and what the reader gets for a message can be totally different. You may mean it to be funny and are laughing as you type, but the reader has a totally different mood or thought process when they are reading your post.

There was a demonstration in a communication class where a very short sentence was written. "go to the store and buy eggs and milk" This was handed to the first person who had to read it, destroy the note, write down the same message and pass it to the next person who did the same thing. After it was passed through about 15 to 18 folks in the class the note was read. Not even close to the original very simple message.

Communication is a very difficult skill to master. Most of us here are mediocre at best. There are a few who are very good, but only a few. So please consider this when you read others posts and realize just maybe they didn't mean it the way you interpret it. If your trying to be funny always add a smiley face, always read your message twice before hitting submit, always try to think about how someone else might think about what you wrote.

I do dish and I do take it as well. If you were to check my posts you will see that I make fun of myself and have taken it back from others. Again, I'm on here to have fun.

As to my comments to Happinow, if you read the threads, we have commented back and forth to each other. She has in fact made me laugh on several occasions when she has come back at me in her threads. I have never taken them to be mean.

As to my comment. Sorry folks, while some of you find it to be mean, it wasn't meant to be. Her posts are very confusing to me for the reasons stated. Understand, she has not contacted me personally to ask about this but only called me out publicly on the forum. I understand that some of you will not like me and I'm OK with that. I also understand that not everyone will think that I am funny, and I'm OK with that. There have been times the Admin has removed something that he has thought was questionable and I'm OK with that.

Also understand, this is the last I will have to say about this. If Happinow has a problem with me, I think maybe she might have wanted to bring it to me before grandstanding with the "I'm leaving the forum now" thread. But, what do I know?

Excellent post and I especially like the pass the note part. It reminded me of many years ago when we were having a party at a friends home where we all sat in a circle and one of us would wisper a simple message into the ear of the one next to us. They in turn did likewise to the next person and this continued until it reached the last person in the circle. The results were amazing in just how much the message changed through the exchanges.

I didn't think VG was trying to be mean. In fact, I do think for the most part, she does try to be funny. I've seen her take a lot of heat on her threads. More then most of you would.

Honestly, I was/am having trouble connecting the dots with some of the threads. I don't want to see either one of them leave the forum and I feel this has been blown way out of proportion.

I too wonder why the comments came up as a thread and not in a PM. Honestly, I don't think if Happinow was trying to resolve it, this was the way to do it. If it had been at me, I'm not so sure I wouldn't have reacted a lot more then VG.

I also don't know who most of you are who are suddenly coming out of the woodwork on this topic. I'm seeing some pretty mean comments to both parties.... Posters who have only made a few posts making some pretty harsh posts. Just who are the trolls, because I'm getting confused?

On a more serious note. There is documentation all over the place about face to face communication feeling tones and body language and facial expressions. We all know this.

And we cannot do it in type. Well some are good at it and some are terrible.

I have a friend in TV that I absolutely repect but we cannot communicate in e-mails. Even a phone call is strained. Face to Face it's all good.

On line he becomes an e-mail terroritsts. Abrupt Short in. If fact his last comment to me was that TOTV is full of jerks and complainers.

Now the real sad story- SU lost last night- Sigh!

One thing that we should never do is make a statement complaining that "TOTV is full of jerks and complainers." A bit self-denigrating don't ya think? Anyway, you're right about SU. Unfortunately they kind of beat themselves in the last few minutes of the game. Pushed too hard and too carelessly! Oh well!
