It is hard to believe people like that exist. Real embarrassment.

Maybe she should have been tested for drugs before testifying?? My head aches from watching that exchange. I'm surprised the judge doesn't pull her aside and speak with her about having respect for the court. She is a disgrace.....

Not sure why I got sucked into watching -- but I saw more of her testimony than I really wanted to (kept waiting for the news). I don't think she was a "disgrace" -- it seems most of her contempt was for the defense attorney, not the court (if the court, I think her behavior would have been much worse). I don't think she was disgusting. I think she's a young woman put in a position for which she is ill prepared. She did become angry and resentful. She is obviously uneducated and probably doesn't have a very high IQ. She is very much a product of her social status and acted accordingly. I was actually surprised she didn't say more than she did. My gut feeling is that the prosecutor will clear up a lot when he redirects.

no wonder Don West keeps asking the same questions over and over again...
Wonder if a more direct line of questioning would have been better? |

I don't have sympathy because she brought her own problems on herself by lying. That is where she gets all tangled up - trying to explain her lies. No matter how unsophisticated or educated you are if you are simply telling the truth things go much better.

Agree, honesty has nothing to do with how old you are, your education, your race, where you grew up, who your parents were, etc, etc, etc.

It just shows how some of the youth of today are so different than when we were that age. Martin spent hours talking with this girl on the phone, if given the choice I would take a dentist appointment over listening to this girl for an hour.

I am not defending her by any means but look at the situation.
She is definitely uneducated and is from a part of Miami that is not trusting of police or the law. She is thrust into court and a beligerent white man is asking her the same questions over and over just to see if she changes a few words here and there. She is fed up with the situation and sees that the defense wants her to slip up so she is giving some attitude back to West. One poster wrote, "It just shows how some of the youth of today are so different than when we were that age." I do not agree with that. It is a culture thing of where she grew up. When we were at that age, most of us did not ever see a ghetto much less grow up in one - or we might have had that same attitude. Guys, think of some of the men in your basic training units during the mid to late '60's and early '70's who were drafted from the inner city. Didn't a lot of them have her same attitude? I know I experienced that in 1967. |
