Default Ebola's real danger

I'm hoping that the countries first real ebola tragedy is over: We have learned our lesson and will deal with this disease with the extreme caution it warrants.

What I have noticed is another more real danger - the fragility of our stock market and economics.

My family was considering a trip to Seattle and Vancouver, then a Dallas nurse decided to travel to Cleveland to work on her wedding arrangements.
1. We stopped planning none of my relatives are inclined to get into a plane. I have to wonder- How many other vacation plans are on hold?
2. The bridal shop she visited closed and when it reopens just how many brides will be shopping there?
3. The fellow sitting next to her is out of work in voluntary quarentinment for 21 days checking his temperature twice daily. Every belch raising his fear level to new heights.
How many are in voluntary quarentinment?
4. A couple of schools were closed.
5. How do you feel about taking a cruise right now?

What happens if someone on one of the Cleveland to Dallas round trips flights foes come down with the disease...would most people get on a plane? What impact will that have on a very temperamental market?

The herd panics easily- I have to wonder.

Ps a doctor has an article on ebola in the american thinker...it can take up to 40 days before symptoms show ...most show in 21...

It is always nice to be upbeat but the incidence of ebola are far from over. And as far as learning our lesson those are words of an optomist, a wishful thinker or other!

We as a country are not doing anything different today than we were when patient zero was let go from the hospital the first time.

Maybe....MAYBE....the hospotials and the people who run them have learned a lesson....MAYBE!!

We are still allowing infected people to enter the USA!!!!
We are still granting visas to people from the infected parts of Africa!!!!

The priorities of protecting the USA people is still secondary to the economic impact on infected countries.

The priorities and actions taken are STILL POLITICALLY DRIVEN!!!!

The media has toned down the rhetoric....probably at the direction of the ebola czar!!!!!

I for one see absolutely no improvement regarding prevention!

The odd things I see/ read/hear about Ebola....My confusion 1 . how long it takes to become contagious 2. How is it transferred from person to person 3. What is hospital protocol for incoming possibly infected person 4. Is the protocol for quarantine a possible infected person the same for every medical facility in every state? 5. Does the CDC truly understand the transmission ,contagion and treatment of Ebola as this strain is now? Is there a definitive method in place for the safe care and treatment of ; possibly contagious, contagious, health care workers, general population, travelers . What is the worst case scenario ,and what has been proposed as the answer to ; quarantine, more medical facilities, transportation of health workers, and the ill, depots for , personnel, supplies and medical equipment necessary for large scale population areas affected.
Sounds panicky and over dramatic I know , but I like to have facts to base my judgements and actions, so far the answers to my concerns are not the same , changing daily, depending on what those in charge wish to share with the media. Not very reassuring
If you readers have a reliable ,scientific , medical (data ) based site that answers my concerns ..please inform me of its location.

While I am upset about no travel ban on flights into the US from West Africa, I am certainly not afraid that it is going to be a pandemic in the USA.

I am not letting it change my travel plans. I have a Caribbean cruise scheduled for November and unless Ebola is reported on that ship, I have no plans to change the cruise date.

I saw the film clip on FOX last evening of the Frontier plane taken by one of the Ebola victims. The COO of Frontier was so confident the plane was completely safe that he sat in the same seat the patient used.

They also had a couple of doctors saying there is almost a zero chance of contracting it unless you are in direct contact with bodily discharge from a patient. Even Kelly (the hot hostess of the program) said her doctor told her the same thing and that a flu shot is the most important thing to get at this point - to protect from the flu.

Remember all the fear that was stirred up when AIDS came into the light. It was thought that AIDS would become the pandemic to end the world and that it was spread by mosquitoes. While AIDS is a terrible disease, it is controllable and we all know how it is spread.

As FDR said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." He is rated as the #1 President the USA has ever had.

I have not changed any travel plans. My plans include taking airline flights this week, again in mid- February and then in mid-April.
I continued to fly immediately following 911 too!

I wish I had more confidence in our government. But it seems the "company" line is more important than being transparent. I feel we don't really know that much how the disease is transmitted or how long it remains active. Can you get it by just touching a contaminated object, by a sneeze or can it become air borne. The news reporter thinks he got it by cleaning out a car. In my book, that pretty contagious, no mention of open cuts, etc. No travel ban, 4000 US troops in Liberia who if infected will not be sent home for treatment but our government says it will allow non nationals into this country for treatment. Disgusting!

Most surveys agree that the top five presidents are:

George Washington (the first president of the United States)
Abraham Lincoln (led the United States through the American Civil War and ended slavery)
Franklin Roosevelt (elected four times and led the country through the Great Depression and World War II).
John F. Kennedy (presided over the Cuban Missile Crisis)
Ronald Reagan (presided over the end of the Cold War and restored the economy)

Staying on topic ---

I changed my travel plans. Wanted to go to NY this past weekend, no way until we know more about how this disease is transmitted. Too many unanswered questions for me and it doesn't seem like they will be answered very soon.

I also wonder about the economic impact of this scare. The cruise ship that Mexico wouldn't let them dock in their country and also Costa Rica did the same thing so they turned around and returned to Texas? What happens to the other cruisers? Did they get their money back? Who is going to cover this cost, insurance carriers??? Too many unanswered questions and doesn't seem like they are ready to answer them.

The Carnival Magic was not allowed to dock at Cozumel, Mexico. They sailed back to their home port of Galveston, Texas. I did not see that they were supposed to dock in Costa Rica. Cozumel was the only stop they were not allowed to make.

Passengers were all given a $200 refund on this trip and a 50% voucher on any upcoming Carnival cruise.
