Default When requesting a credit report from the "big 3"

the request includes providing one's social security number. Their sites have the https and the security locks.

Should there be a security concern regarding making this request for the social security number on line??

Opinions appreciated.

FYI ... everyone is entitled to receive one free annual credit report .. There are numerous sites touting this, but the "official" site is AnnualCreditReport.com ... if you need current, updated information, creditkarma.com is a very legitimate site as well ..

Be very careful and read the fine print. You may agree to a monthly report at $$ per month.

You might be able to get this from your bank for free, stop by and ask. Unfortunately it appears that ALL financial info is tired to your SS #, not sure if there is a way to get credit report with out providing that info.

As for SS#, you can't get any credit report that I'm aware of...without one.

I have a monthly subscription ($19.95) to myFICO, which includes credit monitoring as well as a monthly score from the three primary reporting agencies (Equifax, TransUnion, Experian).

For the $19.95 I get only the 1-Bureau in-depth FICO Scores (Equifax), but am still monitored from the other two.

FICO(R) Scores & Credit Reports From All 3 Bureaus | myFICO

For an additional amount, I can also get a monthly in-depth credit score/history from the other two companies... or you can pay $10 more a month and get them every month. I haven't seen the necessity for that, so have stuck with the current $19.95 plan.

Well worth it in my opinion.
