I was just reading the New York Times and saw this quote from Mike Barnacle:

"The next time Gates needs 911, he should call the Harvard faculty lounge instead.

Great line.

Default What a lot of high visibility persona, especially POTUS etal,

will from time to time is mis speak or make an error, hence a gaff.

Obama's position was NOT a gaff....it was a personal belief....many a POTUS have them...most are smart enough to understand the power of their position.

OBAMA does not and did not. Because of his arrogance and infatuation with his new found power of position, he thinks he can say as do as he may wish. To some degree he as an American does have that right.

He does not have the right to use the power of his position and the access to a world stage to promote a racist agenda....his or any other.

He stooped to the level of being a mediocre politician. Maybe he learned something as a result. However, I seriously doubt it. His belief is stronger than his good sense or better judgement and he just proved it.

Throughout his entire "career" he has shown the propensity to do one thing and say another. If you read into his background without his pretty words ringing in your ear, you will find a VERY VERY political person with an ego inflated beyond normal.

This President will have good times as a result of his pretty words, and in fact may do some good things, but you MUST keep looking at the big picture and what he is accomplishing.

It is very typical of his "career" to put the devil in the details as someone pointed out. We will live with those details in this country for many a year !

His saying to Sen Reid that he "had a gift", in my mind is alluding to the fact that every time he gets caught up, he is able to spin words to get out of the mess.....this is a good example.....he has turned this into a race thing AND IT WAS NOT...and he is trying so hard to be the good guy that brought everyone together !

I'd love to see some serious discussion from Obama supporters justifying his comments. Of course, some people think this is a hoot. This is nothing to "chuckle" over as was suggested early on in this forum. C'mon.... anybody???

"The woman whose report of a possible house break-in led to the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. said she never mentioned race during her 911 call and is “personally devastated’’ by media accounts that suggest she placed the call because the men she observed on the porch were black, according to a lawyer acting as her spokeswoman."

http://www.boston.com/news/local/mas...ce_police_say/

So, the 911 caller did not mention race nor was it an issue for her. The police say that race was not an issue in the situation. So who mentioned race ?

The only folks who mentioned race were the professor and the President !

Again, I am very disappointed that the invitation was accepted to the WH under the circumstances that the President and the professor want to, and have said they want to, use this as a "lesson" on profiling even though profiling was never an issue !!!

I wouldn't be suprised if you don't get too many takers since this forum is dominated by a relatively small number of like minded individuals. Not that it is necessarily a good or bad thing, just the way it is. I think a lot of people simply avoid the "piling on" effect.

Those Obama supporters were on this forum in great numbers before the election, and passed themselves off as "enlightened" and "passionate" about an Obama presidency !

How ironic it is that the only "lesson" I see here is a lesson in "Do what I say, not what I do." The POTUS says this will be a lesson for America. He and his professor buddy are the ones that need to pay attention and learn. They have no idea this is all about them! It is amazing!!!

I agree with Pres. Obama. It is a lesson fo America, however, the lesson is an old one - don't judge a book by it's cover.... America did!

Prejudice is a great timesaver. It enables you to form opinions without bothering to get the facts. Yup, Obama spoke with a preconceived notion that policemen are bigots.
I would think you would have to be a politically astute policemen to work in the People's Republic of Cambridge. I can tell you for a fact that a red-necked cop would not last a month in that communist infested city. (In my most humble opinion)

PS. Communist infested may be too strong a description but the city is world renowned for it's extreme liberal leanings.

Default This morning, on channel 5 Boston

the network game show was interrupted by a news offering of the actual 911 tapes of the Obamagate incident. The media was given a copy of the tape so that the public could hear for themselves exactly what was said by the 911 caller and the police dispatch. Only one mention of race was made, buy the dispatcher, as to whether the suspect was White, Black, or Hispanic. It is obvious that Mr Gates was the only one, with his racist tirade, that caused any problem.

If you now think that the dispatcher was a racist, consider whether when you had to call the police, would you want the police looking for a Black man, when a blue eyed blond just held you up at gun point? That would hardly be called racist or racial profiling.
