I retired from 75% of work in June 2012. Picked a few things here in TV I wanted to do as a volunteer, and retired from all real non-volunteer work on Christmas Eve 2017. NOTHING makes me happier than not to do NOTHING travel every week. I so enjoy waking up in the morning and knowing what city I am in. I can now do NOTHING except those things I truly enjoy.

Wow, that was just a week ago that you fully retired. Well, congratulations and I hope you continue to do NOTHING but enjoy every minute of it.

NOTHING but respect for that.

The wife and I are working toward that goal but decided a long time ago that we would travel globally while we were still in good enough shape to do it and before the entire world turned to shlt and we no longer feel safe going overseas.

Our goal is Fall-Winter-Spring in the Villages. Summer on a cruise ship.. lol

When I semi-retired I decided only to serve clients with whom I enjoyed working. I refused to spend more than 20 hours per month on real work. Since my clients were long term friends, I enjoyed working with them, and they enjoyed my expertise because they knew I added value to their organizations.

Over the last 3 years I’ve become more involved in church activities and volunteer positions of organizations that either serve The Villages or meet specific personal goals.

When I let my friends know I was no longer available, they were pleased for me.

God is good!

Happy New Year to all, whether members in NOTHING, or not.

Praying that you both are able to fully experience your plans. Just a complete blessing that you know what you wish to do, and may NOTHING interfere with those plans. [emoji41]

That is a great plan, and my prayer for you and your wife would be exactly the same as D's. One of my very best friends and her husband decided to do the same thing you are doing now - travel the world while they were able as her husband had a lot of health issues and they weren't sure they would be able to wait until retirement to do so. My beloved friend (not her husband) died this past July of Stage 4 pancreatic cancer at the age of 60. So you just never know. I thank God they did get a lot of traveling in, even after her diagnosis. She was an amazing witness to what it's like to have hope, peace, and joy despite your circumstances.

I have had a lot of tragedy this past year. My sister-in-law died in May one month shy of her 62nd birthday. She was hoping to retire early and begin to enjoy full-time the hobbies she loved. She had what appeared to be a viral respiratory infection. Then when she realized she needed to get another opinion, she found out she had lung cancer secondary to another cancer that had probably been lingering in her body for at least a year. She died 2 weeks after being diagnosed.

I'm sorry to be sharing all this sad news. Maybe I needed the catharsis. It still brings me to tears when I speak of them. But my point is, let NOTHING get in the way of your dreams. Time is precious and you just never know because we don't hold the cards. Treasure every moment you have together.

He is indeed! Even though our retirement plans have been put on hold for circumstances beyond our control, God has provided for my husband and I in so many ways through both job losses and cut backs. We are so blessed. It is also interesting to see all the reasons that it was meant for us to still be here instead of Florida. My brother really needed support this summer after the sudden death of his wife. I would have missed out on many special moments with my dear friend. I could go on and on.
God wastes NOTHING and His plan is NOTHING but perfect. Those thoughts are what keep me sane on the days I yearn to be in TV.

Thanks, D.. We are a pretty focused pair. We don't live the high life. Pretty much put our money into our retirement first and travel second. Don't drive fancy cars and don't eat out much.

Wife was unable to have children due to some female issues so we get to spend the tuition money on ourselves. NOTHING but grateful we can.
