More Hollywood fakery. It wasn't like that. There weren't all these "wise old "Uncles"" that taught the kids and gave them wise saying to live by. It was an idealized version, the beginning of the propaganda that we're all "equal". MOST slaves were nothing more than ignorant "farm implements". I am far removed from being a bleeding heart liberal but I had met a lot of people who had similar points of view, as yours, when I lived and worked in Memphis, TN and worked there to North Mississippi and the state of Arkansas. Simply stated if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. Rev King was correct when he said a person should be judged by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. To deny this reality is to deny reality.

The timber of humanity is crooked. So much so that almost anything man builds has various flaws unless there are all kinds of checks-and-balances. With the slave trade of hundreds of years there was so much money and labor invested in it that they continued to dehumanize blacks even after the Civil War and other massive struggles allowed them to do so. There seemed to be few checks-and-balances stopped man's darker impulses.

And there were many people in minorities that fought honorably in WWII and WWI and that even includes many Jews, Native Americans, African-Americans, Asian-Americans, etc.

Slaves were a cheap commodity... Don't believe the propaganda stories. The coastal blacks were practically giving them away there were so many.

Blacks were used as draft animals. They were seen as a "smart" ox or horse who could also be taught other simple tasks. They were farm implements.

COTTON was where the money was and the REAL reason for the Civil War...the south didn't want to be taxed by the north. Slavery was a political issue they hoped would slow the cotton production depriving the south. Slavery WASN'T abolished in the north by the Eman. Proc. ONLY in the Confederate states seeking cessation. The Civil War wasn't civil, it was about money and getting a cut.

Everybody knew back then that blacks weren't the same as us. Lincoln himself said we'd NEVER be equals. Coastal blacks didn't think the C and S African blacks were equal even to them. They STILL don't think they're equal and genocide occurs there today.

They're not us.

I believe in treating everyone equal until they dispel the image of being equal. I believe in being inclusive, not publicly multi-cultured. I believe that if one cannot bring themselves to be assimilated into OUR society, then they are not wishing to be American and should excuse themselves from our nation. I do not believe in PC but I do believe in manners. I believe that if religion offends you then it is YOUR option to ignore it, not ban it. If guns bother you, then you should resist purchasing one, not ban them. If alcohol bothers you, then don't consume it but don't ban it. If smoking bothers you, then don't smoke or don't frequent that establishment but do not ban it. We did have a free country, but it seems that the left does not wish to live with FREEDOM.

I have no problem with "whiteness." The problem seems to exist elsewhere. If that makes me a racist because I am grateful for being white, then label me if you wish. I am through correcting those that feel that they must be superior by labeling a person a racist or a sexist or a homophobe. If more people simply decided to ignore those that label them, then the only disgruntled and unhappy people would be the accusers. Treat everyone as you wish to be treated until they change the scenario. I have been to many countries where I was the minority and got along just fine. Some natives of other countries do not like Americans, and that is their prerogative. When you are in their country, you live by their rules.

To put it simply, if you have a problem with "whiteness" that's a personal problem. I have never been ashamed of my color or gender and have never been gender confused. I am a white male and do not consider myself a racist.

What about a whole race? An entire species that has PROVEN...over and over...that they're NOT an equal? WHERE are they equals? Without affirmative action and quotas, they wouldn't be represented at all.
