If you look at Paul Krugman's various writings he is critical of both Republican and Democratic economic policies. It is kind of his field to make criticisms of these policies. I do not see him as a puppet of any politicians.

Not going to argue with you...it is not that big of a deal, but rest assured for YEARS, when the Democratic party needs an economic talking head they call on Krugman whether to support them or critique the other side. That does not make him a bad guy and I cannot think of any SUBSTANTIAL issue that he ever leaned right...ever !!!

But they both have shills that they use

For me, he does not get the credibility I may give others for that reason, thats all.

you obviously do not have a clue as to some of the things that can be done. For instance suspend the capital gains tax for 10 years. That would bring investment to the country. Investment for small businesses etc.

Cut the corporate income taxed to a level that is the lowest in the world. That will attract businesses to come to America and it will be an incentive for a lot of businesses to come home. Jobs jobs jobs, the more people who have jobs but more people there will be paying taxes. The more people who will be paying taxes the more taxes there will be in our coffers.

Basic economics is all you need to understand that increasing taxes is really counterproductive as far as the private sector is concerned. There has been no indication that the present president has had any thoughts of using the higher taxes that he wants paid to be used for anything other than expanding government.

I don't expect you to understand any of this because you're so blinded by your ideology. Socialism has failed throughout the world. You may pick one or two very small countries as anecdotal evidence of its great success but the truth is Socialism needs capitalism to survive and once you get rid of capitalism Socialism dies.

I personally can't see that an additional tax on the so called 1% will ever become law. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneris, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates & other members of that 1% won't allow it. Why doesn't O.B. just forget about a law, and ask the 1% to contribute to the national debt? I'm sure they would be happy to.

Why did you just name the Democrats who are very rich? What about Republicans who are very rich? It is the Super Pacs of the Republican wealthy who are behind the not raising taxes on millionaires.

buggyone - did i miss a news report that wealthy democrats are in favor of increased taxes on their earnings? i once heard a report that warren buffet thought the taxes should be increased - but i never heard that he volunteered to pay more...after all, he doesn't collect a salary - he lives off capital gains which are taxed at a lower rate. so what does he care how regular income is taxed anyway. and we all know about the bill and melinda gates foundation that they pour much of their spare change into in order to offest their earnings. which super pacs are behind not raising taxes on millionaires - can i find them on-line?

Once again, wubers are DEFLECTING AND DIVERTING the questions. Typical and therefore, ignored.

People living in The Villages are very close and many are in the so-called 1%. Who else can afford the high prices of the new built houses that are pushing $1Mil?
The debt is high because BHO wants to destroy the US economy and build a Socialist Utopia on the ashes. He made ObamaCare, does not do anything to trim Medicare costs, but he raided the Medicare fund to pay for Obamacare.

A vibrant economy like we had before would generate enough revenue at a lower percentage, but a bigger tax base. Reagan did it.

I am very interested in your comment. As you seem very familiar with the features of ObamaCare, tell me about the raiding of the Medicare fund? You are saying that this law takes money away from "the Medicare fund"? And you are clear that nothing in ObamaCare is aimed at trimming the cost of the Medicare program?

I tried looking up the tax rates under the Reagan administration so I could compare them to those we have now, both on businesses and individuals, and as a percentage of GNP but I just couldn't find the right ones as everything I found showed that that tax rates were higher under Reagan than under Obama and that the largest tax increase in peacetime in US history was signed by Reagan, as well as the largest decrease in tax rates for the highest earners. Please help me out with some specifics. Of course with a Socialist Muslim, Kenyan in the White House, we don't really need specifics beyond those epithets to know we need to get him out.

i make no attempt to deflect or divert - i ask in the spirit of wanting to know if i missed something. but, fine, ignore the first part of my inquiry and please answer the 2nd question...which super pacs are behind not raising taxes on millionaires and can i find them on-line? i would like to find out as much about them as you seem to know.
