Hi:
I've been having some issues recently with my screen freezing for a few minutes off and on my laptop. I have wi fi and one standalone computer. I have the router hooked to the standalone and into my comcast modem. I have noticed that the wi fi signal indicator on my Linksys router isn't steady and is always flickering. I don't know if this just started or if that is normal. The issues I'm having are on my laptop and I think maybe it might be my router since the other computer seems to be working ok. Any thoughts on this? I have cleaned out the clutter and have checked my connection which it says is very good. Oh, I forgot to say this happens in both Chrome and Internet Explorer. |

One thing you need to determine is if the issue is on the router end or your laptop. You can do that by taking you laptop to some place they have wifi, such as a friends house, rec. center, Starbucks, etc. and see if the problem continues. If it does, its the laptop.
You can also get a network cable and plug you laptop directly into the router and thus bypassing the wireless part of the router and see if things improve. If you determine that the issue is with the wifi end of your router, you might want to try changing the channel # your router is using. I may be conflicting with the signal from one of your neighbors. Good luck and if you still have issues let us know. |

Your Linksys router light should be blinking. That means it is transferring data. Steady light means no traffic. Cannot diagnose with a post. Problem can be anywhere in the chain.

First thing I would suggest is to unplug the router, wait about a minute, then plug it back in and let it reboot. If that doesn't help, then unplug the modem and the router and again wait about a minute and plug the modem back in. Let the modem reboot. Once that is done, plug the router back in and let it reboot. See if that solves the problem. I recently had a problem with Internet pages loading in spurts and/or slowly. The procedures above greatly improved the performance.
One other possibility is interference from cordless phones which could cause your signal strength to your laptop to vary. |

mikeod is on the money, but I would recommend always rebooting both at the same time.
I have to do this about once a month with my Linksys router and Comcast modem. |

Hi all:
Thanks for your replies. Comcast came out today and determined that I have a bad router. Directly going into our stand alone pc we are getting 50 mbps with Comcast's Blast Plus That's without using the wi fi. With the wi fi on my laptop it is 20 mbps. He suggested a new router but didn't guarantee that my speeds would improve. Hoping that is going to solve the locking screen problem as well. I'll be buying a new router today. Thanks again! |

I work at Best Buy and hear that all the time. 99% of the time, a new router solves the problem.

I just purchased a new router with five star reviews on amazon. I am keeping my fingers crossed. At this moment hubby's 8 year old standalone computer is buzzing along at over 50 Mbps but mine is just 20 Mbps. Hopefully I can match him with this new router.
