Default Comcast hook-up

I had decided to get Comcast Tripple Play for $114 a month in the home we are closing on Dec 11.

I called Comcast to get everything set up and to get our new phone number. They say they cannot open a new account for our new address until the owners close their account. Therefore, I can't get a phone # until after we close on the house and then I have to make an appointment for installation. That appointment will be scheduled then for an available date in the future.

It seems like I could be without cable, phone and internet for a week or more after the closing. Also, we will have no land line phone number. If this is the way it works, I will pick up my Directv portable dish and skip Comcast.

I used the "MOVE" option with Directv and had an installation appointment for the day after the closing. New equipment (DVR), new dish and no contractual obligation. You may want to consider asking for the HD Dish. It'll hold the signal better in nasty weather because it's oval and a little larger. Although we don't have HD TVs, we needed that dish so that they didn't have to run two lines for the DVR. I'm just repeating what the installer told me. I'm not nearly bright enough to figure that one out. We love the setup and can't say enough about the DVR.

Unfortunately, that's the way it is.

BTW, contact SECO before you close to set up a date (should be your actual closing date) for transferring the electricity account into your name, otherwise, you'll have no electric for that week also. They DO turn off the electric on the closing date if they don't hear from you. Then you wouldn't need the Directv portable dish either.

Thanks anyexit and homeball. Directv is looking better all the time. And I will contact SECO Monday.

I have Embarq (now Century Link) internet in South Florida and think I can have the same in TV. I have a supposedly life time internet hook-up for $44 a month. There are just so many offers floating around. But it can get expensive quite fast.

I haven't given up on Comcast, but it may come to that.

Thanks again,
Pat

Default No dish !!!

The wife and I had two differant dish outfits in the space of 4-5 years when we lived in Orlando. Got ride of both of them. The programs we wanted to tape (then) were always screwed up by the weather. We would set up the VCR (this WAS awhile back) and go do our activities for the day/evening.
Sure enough, the clouds camerolling in and we knew our program was gonna get screwed up. And it did most of the time.
We are sticking with cable. Yes, it costs a few bucks more, but we never have to worry about reception to our DVRs.

Neat bumper sticker. Went like this: "It's God's job to judge terrorists. Our job is to arrange the meeting!"
