Default experiences with porcelain coated cast iron sink for kitchen

Anyone have good or bad experience with the new type of porcelain coated cast iron sink?

We were looking at light granite sink but sales guy at Home Depot said they've changed out some light colored granite sinks due to damage from chemicals people used. Apparently the chemicals (Draino) caused permanent stains on the granite sink.

For light colored sink to match appliances he recommends shiny, white porcelain coated cast iron sink. Anyone have experience with these?

I only have experience with a black granite sink, and I love it!

When purchased they look fantastic... After one year, you regret buying it. Chipping and dullness, even when cleaning it faithfully.

They do chip easily and easy to nick with a knife. Why not stainless?

Default Thanks for the input

Glad I asked and thanks for all the input. Porcelain sure has a bad rep. I wonder how they ever sell them or if there is new, improved technology.

We had bad experience with stainless kitchen sink in pre-owned house in the Villages. It never looked good as it had some rust marks and scratches and it's never looked good even after major cleanup efforts. Maybe it was a cheap sink with poor care, but it created a bad opinion.

For those with granite sink be careful with strong chemicals like Draino.

I don't know if it was porcelain coated, but in two previous houses (not The Villages) I had a Kohler Lakefield cast iron sink which I truly miss! Never had any problems with chips or nicks. Used Bar Keepers Friend to keep it clean. The Lakefield model has a small basin for your disposal and a very large and extra deep basin for soaking and washing those big items which don't fit in my Villages sink

Cleanwater

There are vast differences in the grade(s) of SS sinks. We once had the cheaper style and it had a thinny sound when you dropped a set of kets in it. With the better SS sinks (such as Blanco) they are made of ticker SS and have sound deading pads on the bottom of the bowls. When you drop a set of key s (or anything) in these bowls you have a "Clunk" sound. The better sinks are definily less prone to rust spots and any discoloration.
